It is possible to take out the Dreadnought, but it takes a lot of time and firepower. Considering you only get yet more waves afterwards, it isn't really worth it.
Outcome
You lose.

Mission : Sol Defense
Comments : Despite what the guide says, killing the Dreadnought can be quite challanging. Remember the weakness of all Kilrathi ships: get in the hanger. An Excal with Dumbfire or a Longbow is recommended for killing the Dreadnought, but an Excal is better.

Mission : Dreadnought
Comments : The other weakness of all Kilrathi capitol ships is directly behind them. Get behind the Dreadnough, match speed, and shoot at point blank range until it explodes- only after you destroy any fighters- this is it's blindspot

Comments : Capitol ship you say? THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CAPITOL SHIP! A CAPITAL ship on the other hand - that's something.

Mission : Sol Defense
Comments : Taking out the turrets first is the most challenging way to bring down this bogey - but i can be done, if you get after the Tachyon Cannons first. When this thing's finally rendered toothless, you've truly earned yourself a pat on the shoulder.

Comments : Good to know you can't win, I've played this mission over and over to no avail. I wish they'd let you know that or give you a more conclusive end. On that note, how does blair (Mark Hamil) come back in part 4 if he dies in part 3?
