Wing Commander
MCAULIFFE SYSTEM

McAuliffe 1

Primary Objectives Patrol all NAV points
Your Ship Scimitar
Wingman Paladin
Other Friendly Ships None
Briefing Just fly to the Nav Points, and make sure they're clear. Long-range scanners indicate some sort of debris near Nav 3. We have reason to believe this might be a Kilrathi mine field so be especially careful in that area.
NAV 1
3 Dralthi
NAV 3
Mine Field
NAV 4
3 Salthi

Notes

  • Here you have a patrol mission similar to the first mission of the game. You face a mine field though so fly carefully through like you would an asteroid field. When you face the Salthi, they may run away after taking damage. You can't catch them in your Scimitar so let them run.

    Outcome

Success / Failure go to McAuliffe 2.

    McAuliffe 2

Primary Objectives Locate and destroy Kilrathi CapShip
    Your Ship Scimitar
    Wingman Paladin
    Other Friendly Ships None
Briefing If the bogie continues its present course and speed you should meet it here, at Nav 1. We've detected a fighter escort in the area as well so be on the lookout for additional bogies.
    BETWEEN CLAW AND NAV 1
    4 Dralthi
    NAV 1
    2 Krant
    1 Ralari

    Notes

  • This mission serves to train you to fight enemy capships. To start with, take out the fighter escort which in this case is two Krants. This leaves just the Ralari to worry about. It is covered in turrets to the sides and the front, but the engines are vulnerable. Get behind the Ralari, go to full speed and open fire. When you get close to the Ralari, quickly turn around and afterburn away before you ram it. When you are a reasonable distance from it, turn around and repeat the procedure until it dies.

    Outcome

Success / Failure go to McAuliffe 3.

    McAuliffe 3

Primary Objectives Escort tanker back to Tiger's Claw
    Your Ship Scimitar
    Wingman Paladin
Other Friendly Ships Drayman at Nav 1
Briefing You'll rendezvous with a Drayman-class tanker here, at Nav 1. As soon as it arrives, the tanker will head for the Tiger's Claw. It'll be moving at top speed, and won't deviate from its shortest course so you'll have to protect it from any attackers. Stay close ... don't let enemy fighters draw you away from the tanker.
    NAV 1
    4 Krant
    BETWEEN NAV 1 and CLAW
    3 Salthi

    Notes

  • Upon reaching Nav 1, you'll find 4 Krants. You have but a minute or two before the Drayman you need to escort arrives so that's all the time you have to take out the Krants without having to worry about the transport. You'll see a flash when it arrives. On the way home, you are ambushed by three Salthi, one of which is being piloted by Bhurak Starkiller. Target Bhurak first and try to take him out, although he'll probably run away. If he does, that leaves you with just the remaining two Salthi to deal with.

    Outcome

Success go to Gimle 1. Failure go to Brimstone 1.

Comments : Can you only receive the silver star if you shoot down starkiller? If not, do you need to kill 7 kilrahs?

    Mission : McAuliffe 3
Comments : The Drayman won't show up until you actually make it to Nav 1 (within 1000 clicks, I think). If you use autopilot as you leave the Claw, it'll dump you far enough away from Nav 1 that you can taunt the Krants into coming after you.

Comments : If Bhurak Starkiller gets away and you make it back to the Claw w/ the Drayman, wait for the Drayman to get away from you, then go back to Nav 1 and you get another shot at Bhurak.

Comments : Beni: You think you should get rewarded for NOT shooting down Bhurak?? This is not how it works my friend. And you who cannot land - how hard is it? Just fly towards the front of the TC, AFTER you get landing clearance.

    Mission :
Comments : Ripperian, I had the same problem at first. I was trying to land approaching from the side. You must approach the Tiger's Claw from the front at a modest speed. About 100 or so is fine. I use side and rear cameras (F2, F3, F4) to get in position.

Comments : I experienced strange thing yesterday in the mission McAuliffe 3... on the way back to the Claw, when the Salthi wing attacked, I went after Bhurak Starkiller, nearly killed him, but as usual he fleed...

    Mission : McAuliffe 3
Comments : my Auto-Pilot light was on, so I pressed it, w/o checking NAV before... i thought it would bring me back to the Drayman, which was wrong, I went to the Claw, alone. NAV tells me Drayman is still on its way, so I set it as my destination and engage...

    Submitted by : LightNinja (continuing)
    Mission : McAuliffe 3
Comments : From now on strange things happened: 1. My wingman was suddenly with me while he was not when I went to the Claw. 2. I arrived at the Drayman, it was still alive and also was Bhurak (I had shot him down to RED, now he was in perfect condition!)

    Submitted by : LightNinja (continuing)
    Mission : McAuliffe 3
Comments : 3. While I attacked Bhurak, he suddenly turned INVISIBLE! He was visible on the radar but not by eye. I managed to hit him a few times anyway, but he destroyed the Drayman and then pushed his afterburnes as usual and disappeared.

    Mission : McAuliffe 3
Comments : 4. Music was quite messed up for the rest of the mission, for example while landing it played the music which is normally used, when you get a medal.

    Mission : McAuliffe 3
Comments : Music is frequently messed up. Example: Kill the last enemy at a nav point, and autopilot before it finishes the "Victory music". It'll play it over and over and over until you land. At least on the Win95/Saga version.

    Mission : McAuliffe 1
Comments : Like Enyo 1, you can avoid having to pass through most of the minefield by going to Nav 4 before Nav 3, then back to Nav 4 before returning to the Claw.

    Mission : Mc Auliffe 3
Comments : Strange... I've killed all the opponents... i went back to the Claw with the Drayman and my mission is still a failure ?? Somebody could help ?

    Mission : McAuliffe 3
Comments : It IS possible to kill Bhurak, but you need to after-burn after him the moment he starts to run away. I recommend taking out his two wingmen first, then you don't need to worry about the 'sport while chasing down Bhurak.
