GODDARD SYSTEM

Primary Objectives Patrol area

Escort Marciano to Claw
Your Ship Hornet

Other Friendly Ships 1 Diligent at Nav 2
1 Venture at Nav 3
Briefing Alpha Wing will patrol in Hornets...we need you in our fastest ships. You'll launch immediately when we appear in the Goddard system. If there are any cats in our vicinity, eliminate them. Then I want you to go to Nav 1 and scout for any other Kilrathi activity. Afterwards, proceed to Nav Point 2, where the Hickok is preparing to jump to Goddard and provide support for her if the Kilrathi attack. Once she's jumped, go to Nav Point 3, where you'll meet with the Marciano. Escort the corvette back to the Claw, eliminating any threats.

Notes

  • For a first mission, you sure get a lot thrown at you here. The four Salthi at Nav 1 shouldn't be too much of a problem for you, however the Lumbari will jump out soon after you arrive. If you want to stand a chance of taking it out, you'll need to ignore the Salthi which is risky. Fortunately taking out the Lumbari isn't essential. Also the Salthi in the asteroid field aren't a problem as long as you Respect The Rocks(tm).
  • This is where it gets difficult. As you come out of autopilot at Nav 2, order Break & Attack and afterburn towards the Krant in front of you. Take out the Krant as quickly as you can, and hope that the Diligent jumps out first. Once it jumps, you can mop up in your own time. When you reach Nav 3, the Venture hasn't arrived yet which gives you a very short time to do some damage to the Krants there. This is the best time to use your dumbfire missiles and with a bit of luck you may be able to take out one before the Venture arrives. Once it does arrive, do your best to keep the Krants away from it then move on. When you come out of autopilot just before the Claw, the Salthi will be very close so autopilot past them quickly before they have a chance to hurt you then turn and attack. Once again you need to take them out quickly to stop the Venture getting hurt. Luckily Salthi are weak.

    Briefing You'll jump to Nav Point One, where long range scans show something moving. Delete it. At Nav 2, you'll find a Dorkir-class troop carrier. They may be trying to leave the system. Don't let them.

    Notes

  • As soon as you launch, you find yourself and the Claw under attack, but the fighters are more concerned with damaging the Claw which will make it easy for you to drop on to an enemy's tail and take him out. Do this for each enemy in turn and you'll be fine. Now it's time for you to go on the offensive. Nav 1 is the same as Nav 1 last mission, except the Lumbari won't jump out so you should be able to handle that with no trouble. Take care flying through the asteroids, and head for Nav 2. You take on one Krant while Hunter takes on the other, then attack the Dorkir together. Once that's done you can head home. Simple.

    Comments : Then Venture-class corvette got destroyed as I played the mission, but afterwards in the Debriefing with Colonel Halcyon it's said we succesfully protected it. Didn't play that mission again, so can't say if its reproducable.

    Comments : A trick I found: after you launch, set your Nav point to Nav 2. When you arrive, the Krant are just beginning their attack, so it is much easier to destroy them and keep the Hickok alive.
