I4: Kilrah - Defang the Beast is a mission in Wing Commander Prophecy. It follows I3a: Kilrah - Dreadnought Support Assault or I3b: Kilrah - Cleanup and it is followed by I5: Kilrah - Dreadnought Assault.

Mission Briefing

All wings are tasked with reducing the dreadnought's defenses. Proceed to the target NAV point and eliminate all threats. Your primary targets are turrets and shield emitters on the dreadnought, as well as any fighter cover in the vicinity. Additional ordnance may be expended upon the dreadnought's engines and bridge, but these are not your primary targets. When the ship's defenses are eliminated, return to the Midway for further briefing.

I4: Kilrah — Defang the Beast

CAG (BR) — The CAG calls the briefing to order and lays out a plan to knock out the Alien dreadnought's defenses. Blair interrupts to suggest using a training missile barrage as a distraction to the primary attack. The CAG is clearly annoyed, but manages a smile when she realizes that it just might work. In a moment, the scramble alarm sounds.

Anderson (CP) — Anderson reminds you that your primary objective is to take out the dreadnought's bridge or engines, then her turrets.

Briefing. Instead of trying to destroy the Tiamat outright. Tactical has decided it makes more sense to try to soften it up a bit first. You're assigned to a wing of Vampires tasked with engaging the super-ship and disabling as much of its offensive potential as possible.

Notes

  • Take out all escorts before moving within range of the Tiamat. You'll need to concentrate on one thing at a time.
  • Remember that your priority target is the turrets. Don't go wasting ordinance on the shield emitters until you've completely wiped out the ship's gun and missile capability.

Success / Failure go to 15.

Notes

  • This mission is simple. Blair's training missiles trick doesn't work for long so take out all of the fighters. When they're all gone take out all of the turrets. No problem.
  • If you are good at handling your fighter, this mission should be no problem. Autoslide is an extremely valuable tool here so that you can simply slide past turrets without having to keep stopping and starting.
