LIEUTENANT COLONEL GASH DEKKER: You the boss?

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Yeah, something like that.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL GASH DEKKER: Lieutenant Colonel Dekker and company reporting for duty.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: I'm Colonel Blair.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL GASH DEKKER: Oh, the cat-killer.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Look, you people were supposed to be here hours ago.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL GASH DEKKER: Well, things got a little hairy in Lennox. Speaking of which, I hear you're trying to bring home a few cats.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: You got a problem with that?

LIEUTENANT COLONEL GASH DEKKER: You're looking at a veteran of Repleetah, and a man who escaped a Kilrathi P.O.W. camp. They took a lot of years out of my life. But that war's over, ain't it?

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Yeah, and it looks like we got another on our hands.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL GASH DEKKER: Well, as ordered: experts at hand-to-hand combat. They don't look like much, but they get the job done. Come on, on your feet, let's go! Get up! Come on! Ready to go to work.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Good. Get them prepped for a mission: we're gonna see some action.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL GASH DEKKER: All right. Let's go!

storage hold - dekker -g3 Blair comes upon a half-dozen sleeping MARINES. He wakes one of them by kicking his boot.

lt. colonel "gash" DEKKER opens his eyes. they're the eyes of a man who's seen a lot of bloodshed in his 30+ years; eyes that are sharp and hard, like the rest of his face. his voice is deep and cool, but he is definitely somebody you don't want to cross.

Dekker You the boss?

Blair Something like that.

Dekker gets to his feet, makes a gesture that sort of resembles a salute.

Dekker Lieutenant Colonel Dekker...

he gestures to the others still asleep...

Dekker ...and company -- reporting for duty.

Blair I'm Colonel Blair.

Dekker reacts slightly. He knows the name -- and maybe even respects it.

Dekker The cat-killer.

Blair We expected you hours ago.

Dekker Things got a little hairy in Lennox. (beat) Speakin' of which, hear you're trying to get a few cats home.

Blair Any problems with that?

Dekker's eyes darken. he takes a long time to answer.

Dekker You're lookin' at a veteran of Repleetah and a man who escaped from a Kilrathi P.O.W. camp... They took a few years out of my life.

he takes another long beat. then:

Dekker But that war's over, ain't it?

Blair (nods) And we seem to have another one on our hands.

Dekker gestures to his squad, some of whom are now waking.

Dekker Experts at hand-to-hand combat. We don't look like much, but we can get the job done. We're ready to go to work.

Blair Be plenty of that to go around.

Blair exits.
