Transcript

CASEY: So how long do I rate the silent treatment, Colonel?

HAWK: You expect a pat on the back for not telling the brass I wanted to hose those Cats? HA!

CASEY: And I suppose I should have helped you murder them.

HAWK: No, you should be proud of yourself. It's not every day a rookie pilot can rescue a gang of Kilrathi terrorists.

CASEY: Those Kilrathi were flying worn out ships, Colonel.

HAWK: What's your point, Lieutenant?

CASEY: They're a pathetic pack of burn outs fighting a war that's been over for years. People like that... people like you should be pitied.

HAWK: But they're still the enemy.

CASEY: Were, Hawk. Were. Right now, there's a new enemy out there. It's got the Kilrathi on the run, and we're next.

HAWK: I'm a good pilot. I'm still alive. Maybe I should...

CASEY: Plan to stay that way? That's good advice.

He takes his bottle and glass and goes to Black Widow table. He
belts down another drink. Casey pursues.

CASEY
(sits)
How long do I rate the silent
treatment, Colonel?
HAWK
You exoect a pat on the back for
not telling the brass I wanted to
hose those Cats? HAI
CASEY
I suppose I should have helped you
murder them?
HAWK
(sarcastic)
No, you should be proud of
yourself. It's not every day a
first year rookie gets a chance to
rescue a gang of Kilrathi
terrorists.
CASEY
Those Kilrathi were flying warn out
ships, Major.

HAWK
What's your point?
CASEY
So they're a pathetic pack of burn
outs fighting a war that been
over for years. People like that--
people like you--should be pitied.

Hawk jumps him, throws him on the table and plunges the knife
into the.table next to Casey's head. Casey looks at it and
exhales. Hawk stands over Casey, breathing heavily.

HAWK
(almost to himself)
But they're still the enemy.
CASEY
(getting up)
Were, Hawk, were. Right now,
there's a real enemy out
there...and it has the Kilrathi on
the run. And were next.

Hawk thinks about it for a long time. Finally nods.

HAWK
I'm a good pilot. I'm alive.
Maybe I should--
CASEY
--plan to stay that way. Its good
advice.

Casey extends his hand. Hawk looks at it a moment and takes it.

INT. MIDWAY REC ROOM

Casey and Hawk ENTER. Hawk is gruff, defensive, and standoffish as they hit
the bar. After a beat:

CASEY
How long do I rate the silent
treatment, Colonel?
HAWK
You expect a pat on the back for not
telling the brass I wanted to hose
those Kats? Screw off.
CASEY
What should I have done -- helped you
murder them?
HAWK
(sarcastic)
No, you should be proud of yourself.
It's not every day a first year rookie
gets a chance to rescue a gang of
Kilrathi terrorists.

Casey works patiently to reach Hawk.

CASEY
Those Kilrathi were flying worn out,
twenty year old ships, Major.

HAWK
So?
CASEY
So they're a pathetic pack of burn outs
fighting a war that's been over for
years. People like that, people that
live only in the past -- should be
pitied, not hated.

Hawk can see that Casey is not talking just about the Kilrathi -- but
himself. He tries to fight back...

HAWK
But they're the enemy...
CASEY
Were. Past tense. Right now, there's
something much worse out there..and it
has the Kilrathi on the run. And we're
next.

Hawk thinks about it for a long time. Finally nods.

HAWK
Yeah, well. Thanks for reminding me.
CASEY
Hey, what are rookies for?

Hawk almost grins as Casey EXITS through the Forward Door.
