Revamped Video Section Is Totally Tubular
Last year we opened the Holovids movie archive, cataloging everything from official trailers and interviews to fan created music videos. In an effort to make these easier to watch, we've adopted the Flash Video technology that made YouTube so popular. Many of our clips now offer immediate, inline viewing alongside traditional downloads. Some files could not be converted because they use a proprietary codec or because they are too large to offer in this format. If you want the best possible picture and sound quality, we still recommend the direct download option.

Full Full Motion Video Collection
The other night an old friend called me with a normal question - was Prince Thrakhath right or left handed? Boy, I said, I don't know - right, I think, but we'd have to load up WC3 to see for sure.1 Has this ever happened to you? Sure... but never again, thanks to our new index of Wing Commander III videos! By combining new-age flash video technology with Wing Commander 3's extracted videos we've created a neat site which allows you to pick and watch any part of Wing Commander III at any time! Better yet, the quality is identical to that found on the CD-ROM. Find the mission series you want in the index, pick out the video... and you're good to go! We've also included extracts from the game's script for each video, so you can know what you're looking for without even playing the movie! You can find the index
here.

1 - True story. For the record, he is right-handed.

Holovids Up To Speed
These new videos were in the news over the past couple of months. They've now been given a spot in the
video archive.

Additions, New and Old
The most recent video files have been added to their respective sections. Some older files that hadn't made it in yet now have a spot as well.

AD connected with Dallas in his most recent music video.

Homeworld and Wing Commander IV collided. BrynS mixed Homeworld gameplay footage with scenes from the WC4 DVD.

Scenes cut from the Wing Commander Movie. AD collected and described scenes from various trailers that did not make it into the final cut.

The intro from Wing Commander II, without subtitles.

The Kilrathi Saga intro. Tolwyn filtered out the interlacing and converted the file from Xanmovie to DivX for your convience.

A scene from WC4 DVD that you did not get to see if you defected immediately.

Queeg Releases 'Final' WC3 Cut
Queeg has put together a third and final cut of his Heart of the Tiger movie project. He has combined highlights from the story and gameplay into an intense two hour film. Fans who downloaded previous versions might not need to grab this one, but there are a few significant changes (detailed below). You can download the movie here. Grab the XviD codec or VLC player if you cannot view the file. We also recommend a download manager like GetRight to help the 750 meg clip along.

Well, it has been nearly a year but I'm ready to put this project to rest. The movie is finished completely. The changes this time aren't quite as dramatic as between the first two versions.

Changes In Final Version - (Length shortened to 1 hour 58 minutes)

  • Video converted to standard 16:9 widescreen (without distorting the picture). This to allow better compatibility and so the movie isn't too letterboxed.
  • A lot of audio re-dubbed for clearer sound and better transistion between scenes (Annoying pops and clicks etc removed)
  • Missions re-edited and some removed, most missions shorter to keep the pace. New background music in important missions and subtitles size decreased.
  • Unimportant scenes cut out and a few new ones added
There's a few other subtle changes but thats all. It's basically just a fixed up version of the second film, but it does flow better.

Behind The Scenes of Wing Commander III
The Premiere Edition of Wing Commander III and Origin's Official Guide to Wing Commander III came with a bonus CD-ROM that featured a blooper reel and interviews with actors and Origin crew members. One of the oldest files in our
downloads section is an awful RealMovie version of the blooper reel. Now all of these can be downloaded in their original AVI format from CIC Holovids. This is 1994 AVI so the picture quality is not great, but it's really interesting to hear people talk about the filming and design process. Each of these zip files contain five brief interviews:

I wonder if Frank Savage still has that license plate. You can find the blooper reel here.

New Additions
Mobygames' Trixter has provided us with a cleaner version of the Wing Commander 3 Making Of sequence. It even turned out smaller than the older DivX file because of a more efficient video codec. You will need either VLC (recommended), Quicktime or the CoreAVC codec to play this file.

In addition, we've been quietly adding videos to the new Holovids section since the birthday. Many existing entries have had information added or corrected. Don't hesitate to notify us if you notice any broken links. Here's what's new in this update:

Privateer 2 Cinematics Now Online
The
Origin Museum has kindly sent us a copy of a DVD containing many of the cinematics from Privateer 2 : The Darkening, and we are happy to be able to make them available to you! The original source for the DVD is a VHS tape which was donated to the museum so while the quality isn't DVD quality, it is still higher quality than the video used in the game. Sadly there were a few scenes missing from the tape, most notably the intro and the first Joe the Bartender scene but the rest is well worth a look. You can find the videos in the Privateer 2 part of our Cinematics section.

Prophecy Behind The Scenes Now Online
Here's another present courtesy of the
Origin Museum! It's a six minute making of segment from Wing Commander Prophecy -- watch Commodore Blair get slimed for his Nephilim torture sequence! You can find it in the Making Of section here.
