DR. FREVEL: It was quiet a crash. If it hadn't been for that pod, I doubt you'd have survived.

LEV ARRIS: But why was I in the pod?

DR. FREVEL: Well, you're far enough along in your recovery that it's safe to tell you. You were suffering from amniotrophic ossecular degeneration.

LEV ARRIS: Is that bad?

DR. FREVEL: Bad? It was fatal, but not anymore. You were given the self viral specific for AOD as soon as you were thawed. Your bone marrow only took about a week to get back in order. Lucky you were in one of those older pods. Dr. Loomis said they were built to last. Oh, ah, Dr. Loomis is the one who uncorked you.

LEV ARRIS: I haven't met him.

DR. FREVEL: No, he was scheduled to start his holiday before you were conscious again. He, ah, he'll be back at the end of the month. Anyway, you were probably a holdover freeze. When you were diagnosed there was still no cure, so they froze you down til there was one. Lucky for you the AOD cure's been with us for some time now.

LEV ARRIS: Lucky, yeah. Have they found out just why the ship crashed yet?

DR. FREVEL: No, they're still investigating it. So far nothing concrete's turned up. One theory is that the ship's anomaly gave out, but there were rumors about some sort of sabotage or hostile action. Oh it's going to be weeks yet before anything's settled.

25th Anniversary

On May 20, 2020, Privateer 2: The Darkening director Steve Hilliker released The Darkening 25th Anniversary Restoration which featured footage restored from Betacam tapes. The footage has been edited down into a cinema cut but where available it is of much higher quality than the game's files.

Betacam

A pair of Betacam SP tapes recovered from Digital Anvil have provided high quality versions of much of Privateer 2: The Darkening's Main Plot. These cuts are not final and digital effects are missing.

Storyboards

A collection of Privateer 2 Storyboards has been provided by Joe Garrity of the Origin Museum. They cover the Main Plot cutscenes.

Script

A The Darkening Script Draft 7 used during the game's shooting has been provided by Erin Roberts.

SC.81 COLOUR DRAINS OUT OF THE SCENE. EXT. CRIUS

Blurry shapes chase one another across the shot: then we
get a shot of ARRIS'S FACE, seen as if he's looking at
himself in the mirror. This is almost immediately replaced
by another face (blurry at first) seen close up: that of
the female DOCTOR we saw shot earlier. This is a flashback
to an earlier conversation.

DOCTOR
It was quite a crash. If it
hadn't been for the pod, I
doubt you would have survived.

SC.82 EXT. CRIUS HOSPITAL-DAY

Arris is standing out on the terrace of the solarium-like
area from which we saw him abducted. The doctor stands
beside him.

ARRIS
But why was I in the pod?
DOCTOR
Well, you're far enough along in
your recovery that it's safe to tell
you. You were suffering from
amyotrophic ossicular degeneration.
ARRIS
Is that bad?
DOCTOR
(laughs a little)
Bad? It was fatal. But not any more.
DOCTOR (CONT)
You were given the self-viral specific
for AOS as soon as you were thawed: your
bone marrow took about a week to get
back in order. Lucky you were in one of
those older pods, Doctor Loomis said:
they were built to last. Doctor Loomis
is the one who uncorked you.
ARRIS
I haven't met him.
DOCTOR
No, he had a holiday scheduled to start
before you were conscious again. He'll
be back at the end of the month. -- At
any rate, you were probably a "hold-over"
freeze -- when you were diagnosed, there
was still no cure. They froze you
down till there was one. Lucky for
you, the AOD cure has been with us
for a while now.
ARRIS
Lucky...yeah. Have they found out
just why the ship crashed yet?

SC.83 ANOTHER ANGLE - THE TWO OF THEM

The Doctor shakes her head.

DOCTOR
They're still investigating it.
Nothing concrete has turned up. One
theory was that the ship's anomaly
gave out. There were rumors about
some kind of sabotage, or hostile
action --

SC.84 CLOSER - FAVORING THE DOCTOR

DOCTOR
(shakes her head)
It's going to be weeks yet before
thing's certain.
