Why didn't Confed fight the Kilrathi more intelligently?

And, for taking over planets, have pot-bombs set for high air burst.

A whole continent of Kilrathi, staring at their paws with drymouth and a case of the munchies! :D

Yeah, and wouldn't it be great if I had a special butto n combination which would cause all the Kilrathi on my screen to blow up simultaneously.
There is a button combination in WC1 that causes all ships on screen to blow up isn't there?

Yeah, there is (although you need to use a command line parameter to turn it on). I was being "sarcastic".

I always thought that capital ships should be able to take more hits than what the game has them. Maybe it would be better if WC3 and 4 and even WCP if the game AI was better at destroying torpedoes with fighters or guns.
I just think it should be harder to destroy a carrier.

Game balance, mostly. As it was, in WCP, it was impossible to complete most capship-killing missions on your own if you were not flying a Devestator with its shield-penetrating plasma cannon. This meant that for the first time, you were required to protect your bomber wing, since you NEEDED their torpedoes. I think that WCP balanced this fairly well, although I would have liked for the Devestator to NOT have a shield-penetrating gun and instead just pack a few more torps.

Hum. They could have had a magic wnad which woudl have destroyd kilrah after the first battle of the war. Or light sabers...

The Devastator's Bug-crushing gun was part of its charm :D

In actuality, I think they made such a device because some people don't know the finer points of delivering a torpedo successfully. There've even been a few missions where I myself managed to get my torpedos shot down by turrets before they impacted, and the gun saved me from having to restart the mission.

Thats why the game has you eliminate turrets first I suppose. It always pissed me off though when my wingmen would start taking out cargo pods and other such useless targets and waste their torpedoes...

Yeah, I think there were even a few missions that you couldn't win successfully (thank goodness for the losing path) unless your wingmen managed to deliver their own ordinance successfully, which (since they were retarded) meant blowing up all the turrets as fast as you could (especially that really annoying ass-mounted one on the Triton that would almost never blow up unless you practically hit it point blank). Of course, your own side's turrets were never nearly as effective...

*mumble, mumble* I always breathed a sigh of relief when I was flying the Devestator, since it meant that I'd be able to go about and blow up every last alien capship single-handedly, regardless of the mission objectives.

This whole thing about protecting your bombers can be taken to an extreme... I recall countless missions in Starlancer which consisted of "escort these two bombers to the target, defend them for 10 minutes, and destroy all the turrets so they can successfully deliver their torpedos and blow up the Coalition bad guy". Then the bombers promptly did whatever it took to blow up in as short a time as possible.

I hate stupid wingmen... couldnt they have just adjusted the AI pilots so they dont always shoot you in the ass?! I hated doing a run on a capship just to catch a torp just fired from my inept wingman.

I've never ever heard of anyone ever being hit by a friendly missile, let alone a torpedo.

The point is, why waste missile payloads on toys? The only non exploding missile ever to be usefull is the Leech. Yuo'd have to be really smart and creative and genial to come up with something more important for a missile to do than blowing things up or stopping them.

Wing Commander 3 3DO has the 'Vampire' missile instead of the leech - it opens holes in the enemy target's shields (it's more effective against capital ships than fighters).

You, sir, neglect WC2. WC2 wingmen are known specifically for shooting you in the back. And, if you happen to be between one and his/her target, you may even fall victim to a missile. And, yes, I once took a torpedo up the pipes because Jason "Bear" Bondarevsky forgot that I was 100 m in front of him.

It's odd, I've never run into this problem...

... and when you think about it, you really shouldn't. If Bear is firing a torpedo from {Bear Position} before you've fired yours from {In Front Of Bear Position}, it means that *Bear* was in place for the torpedo run first... and that you got in front of him.:)
