Yeah, I think there were even a few missions that you couldn't win successfully (thank goodness for the losing path) unless your wingmen managed to deliver their own ordinance successfully, which (since they were retarded) meant blowing up all the turrets as fast as you could (especially that really annoying ass-mounted one on the Triton that would almost never blow up unless you practically hit it point blank). Of course, your own side's turrets were never nearly as effective...
*mumble, mumble* I always breathed a sigh of relief when I was flying the Devestator, since it meant that I'd be able to go about and blow up every last alien capship single-handedly, regardless of the mission objectives.
This whole thing about protecting your bombers can be taken to an extreme... I recall countless missions in Starlancer which consisted of "escort these two bombers to the target, defend them for 10 minutes, and destroy all the turrets so they can successfully deliver their torpedos and blow up the Coalition bad guy". Then the bombers promptly did whatever it took to blow up in as short a time as possible.
