Another year, another book about the alternate universe Civil War. Wing Commander author William R. Forstchen and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich begin a book signing tour on Monday to promote their latest collaboration, Grant Comes East. You can find a list of planned signings at Newt.org. You'll have to check with your local store to see if both Forstchen and Gingrich will be there, though - since Forstchen's official site hasn't been updated yet. If you're in the DC Metro area, both will be at Olsson's Books in Alexandria, VA next Friday (of course, that's what we said last year). I'll do my darndest to try to attend, so at the very least there'll be someone there to argue with about the continuity of the Wing Commander movie.
Bob McDob sends us this link to a site where someone has graphically documented the evolution of the space combat game, all the way from Space Invaders to... Starfox64. Yeah. Wing Commander earns the second to last slot, though, so... that's pretty good. And hey, Starfox's dad is a giant space whale, so he's got that going for him. Not included: Freespace 2 slash and burns the genre to a standstill.
