A1MANIAC0000.wav Maniac We're scheduled to hop a shuttle at the Orlando depot to make the jump to Sol. Just to make it interesting, I got a surprise for you, Colonel. I know you've always wanted to take a shot at me, here's your chance. Our guns' power generators have been temporarily altered to fire non-lethal blasts. Your HUD will show virtual damage on both ships. First one with 100% damage is the loser. So we can finally see who's better with a flight-stick. What do you say?
PLAYERA10000.wav Blair You're on, pal.
PLAYERA10001.wav Blair No time for that, Maniac, let's head for Orlando.
A1MANIAC0001.wav Maniac Let's see if you still got it, Farmer Blair!
A1MANIAC0002.wav Maniac I knew you'd never want to face the truth, Farmer Blair. Holy shit! Switching to battle mode. I just hope the auto-reconfig is fast enough.
A1MANIAC0003.wav Maniac So you got lucky again. Just like that run on Kilrah. See you at the Orlando Depot. Holy shit! Switching to battle mode! I just hope the auto-reconfig is fast enough!
A1MANIAC0004.wav Maniac Guess you been down on the farm too long, Colonel. See ya at the Orlando depot. Holy shit! Switching to battlemode! I just hope the autoreconfig is fast enough!
A1MANIAC0005.wav Maniac Whoo! Nice work, old timer. Let's head to Orlando. We got a shuttle to catch.
A1MANIAC0006.wav Maniac Son of a bitch! 3,000 people aboard that crate and they just...just...Oh, and if that wasn't enough, we're in the middle of nowhere flying on fumes. Wait, Nav Computer's picked up Bluepoint Station. Oh, I'm not sure we can make it. We got no choice. Listen, downloading Nav Data to you. Nothing personal, Colonel, but so far I haven't much enjoyed this reunion.

Shooting Script

A Wing Commander IV shooting script has been digitized from the collection of the University of Texas at Austin. A digital version (extracted below) was posted to Origin's Wing Commander IV website in 1996.

Once we're inside Blair's cockpit --

MANIAC SHOWS UP ON THE COMM SCREEN WITH THE FOLLOWING
CHALLENGE:

MANIAC (COMM SCREEN)
We're scheduled to hop a shuttle
at the Orlando depot to make the
jump to Sol.
(beat)
It's a long ride -- so just to
make it interesting, I got
another surprise for you,
Colonel: I had our ships rigged
for virtual dogfight mode. I
know you've always wanted to take
a shot at me, so here's your
chance. Our guns' power
generators have been temporarily
altered to fire non-lethal
blasts; our missiles are locked
down. Your HUD will show
'virtual' damage on both our
ships. First one with 100%
damage is the loser. So we can
finally see who's better with a
flight-stick. Whaddya say?...
Blair must DECIDE whether or not to accept this
challenge by answering "AFFIRMATIVE" OR
"NEGATIVE" on the comm channel.
IF he answers AFFIRMATIVE,

this mission continues with:

MANIAC (COMM)

Let's see if you still got
it, 'Farmer' Blair.

Go to Blair dogfights with
Maniac below.

IF he answers NEGATIVE:
MANIAC (COMM)
(laughs)

I knew you'd never want to
face the truth, 'Farmer'
Blai--

Go directly to Blair and
Maniac are suddenly
attacked below.

Blair dogfights with Maniac, using guns only
(missiles are 'locked down' and cannot fire).
The score is displayed on the HUD, showing the
amount of "virtual" damage to each ship.
When one ship sustains 100% virtual damage --
CONDITION: Blair WINS dogfight:
MANIAC (COMM)

So ya got lucky again.
Just like that run on
Kilrah. See ya at the
Orlando depo--

CONDITION: Blair LOSES dogfight:
MANIAC (COMM)
(laughs)

Guess you been down on the
farm too long, Colonel. See
ya at the Orlando depo--

Blair and Maniac are suddenly attacked by a
squadron of pirates --
MANIAC (COMM SCREEN)
Holy shit! Switching to 'battle-
mode'! I just hope the auto-
reconfig is fast enough--
Blair's weapons will now "auto-reconfigure" to
"battle-mode." This reconfiguration will take
X amount of time and while it is taking place,
Blair's going to have to do his best to elude
the pirates' fire. An audio and/or visual cue
will alert Blair when he's 'reconfigured.'
Blair must then take out the pirates. If he
doesn't he will be killed or forced to eject,
where he will drift endlessly in space...
IF Blair takes out the pirates:
MANIAC (COMM)
Nice work, old-timer. Let's head
to Orlando. We got a shuttle to
catch.
Blair can now autopilot to the Orlando depot, a
large floating installation near the jump point
out of Nephele.

MANIAC RETURNS TO THE COMM SCREEN IN SHOCK.

MANIAC (COMM SCREEN)
Son-of-a-bitch! Wish our ships
could jump. I'd love to nail
that bastard.
(beat)
Well, we've got no choice, buddy.
Nearest depot is Blue Point.
We can grab a shuttle to HQ there.
Blair must now fly to the Blue Point depot and
request clearance to land there.
