some more test results
Hi, just tested your privateer remake,
i was a great fan from the original, too, and so i was eager to have a look, when i found out this exists ....
now for the practical part:
i´ve tested it with suse 9.0 and mandrake 8.1 (which are both on different systems, as well
)
the big one is with 1.7ghz(centrino), ati 9600,1gbyte ram etc (dell inspiron 8600) and the game is just fine there, although a little bit hard already for a keyboard player ....
(there is some gfx corruption with the ati driver with highest details settings, but its not the only game with this problem)
the small one is 867mhz (transmeta), ati rage mobility, 384mb ram
this is the one where there is a play problem with the timing (dont know how to explain understandable, but i´ll give it a try ..)
the framerate is low (i play with 640x480/lowest details/nosound) but ok to be subjectively playable
but the enemies seem to have much more frames to use, as they are faster, than on the bigger notebook! (i´ve tried to play on the slower one, but no chance to get the enemies... on the faster one, no problem, although they are hard to kill in the beginning)
and also on the slow notebook, there are much less in-system missions spawning on the mission computer! (maybe just bad luck in random number generation..., but a persistent bad luck, as there are much more in-system missions generated on the faster notebook)
hope to help, keep up this nice work!! (and generate higher resolution bitmaps for the inside of the bases
- also on the slow notebook these are quite slow to use)
its hard to see speed problems for privateer on a 867mhz system with minimal hardware acceleration, when we all remember how stunningly fast it played on 60mhz with software rendering....
nevertheless nice 3d objects for the ships and bases etc!
