I think all those small craft are called "starfighters" as the generic term.

Remember... "A small, one man starfighter..."

Well, you said *dedicated fighter* not *starfighter* mofo.

Yeah, but you said it was not a *fighter*, when it's a *starfighter*. So let's say we both are neither totally right nor totally wrong, and leave it there. :)

Let the record show that I'm going for ghost in this flame war.
Better the south american you know than the south american you don't.

Yeah, fucking barbaric primitives, living in huts, right.

Well, to clear up the Star Wars thing:

X-Wing: Space superiorety.

A-Wing: Intercept, recon.

Y-Wing: Multi Role Heavy Fighter/Bomber.

B-Wing: Frigate Assault Fighter.

Yeah? What about I make one?

X-Wing: Multi-Role. Fighter and Medium Bomber

Y-Wing: Multi-Role. Heavy Fighter and Bomber

A-Wing: Multi Role. Fighter and Interceptor

B-Wing: Multi Role. Heavy fighter and Heavy Bomber

Z-95: Multi Role. Light Fighter and Light Bomber

TIE Fighter - Fighter

TIE Interceptor - Interceptor

TIE Bomber - Bomber

TIE Advanced - Advanced Fighter

Assault Gunboat - Assault Gunboat

Missile Gunboat - Missile Gunboat

TIE Defender - Even more advanced Fighter

Of course, someone could just quote the manuals...

X-Wing - Space Superiority Fighter
A-Wing - Long Range Fighter/Interceptor
Y-Wing - Long Range Fighter/Bomber
B-Wing - Heavy Assault Fighter
Z-95 Headhunter - Fighter

TIE Fighter - Space Superiority Fighter
TIE Interceptor - Space Superiority Fighter/Interceptor
TIE Bomber - Space Bomber
TIE Advanced - Space Superiority Fighter/Interceptor
XG-1 Star Wing - Assault Fighter/Gunboat
XM-1 Missile Boat - Assault Bomber/Interceptor
TIE Defender - Space Superiority Fighter

But, this does leave one vital question unanswered... isn't there like a Star Wars forum somewhere, where you could discuss Star Wars fighter designations to your heart's content? :p

Battledog knows more about WC than origin, and more about SW than LucasArts, so he only cares to his classification.

TheForce.Net has great forums. Go there and try to argue about how the game manual is stupid, that should be entertaining.

But either a "fighter class" thread will end up closed because someone will start arguing if Palpatine is Sidious, or if Sidious is Palpatine's father's ghost-force.

Ok, time to get back on topic here. This thread was about UE2 fighters last I heard. It's already been stated that it is pretty likely that the Rapier and Vindicator will be in UE2 and that the Raptor will NOT. Aside from those, which fighters would you like to see and why? I would like to see the Arrow (WC3 spec)--it would fit well in between the Ferret on the light end and the Rapier on the heavier side.

No, I don't, I was quoting the X-Wing manual.

I think Quarto was quoting the XWvsTF manual, but thats not the point.

My point was about the Y-Wing. You argue that it is a bomber based on its stats and the role it fills. However it sits firmly in the Multi-role slot. Why? Well, thats where the makers put it.

You're arguing the opposite point from the debate on the Vind. Infact you're arguing my point.

Oh, and the Y-Wing is used exstensivly for escort and heavy intercept.

Pic a stance and stick to it.

Don't just dissagree for the sake of dissagreing.

--------------

To the topic. The fighter I want in UE2 is the Sabre, although, I would think they're newer than the Thud and probably still on the front lines.

No, I'm pretending to argue your point in an exaggerated fashion to display how it’s wrong. Of course the Y-Wing is a fighter. Not only the game says that, but also, there is a long-range Y-Wing Recon Squad in Rebellion.

And your style, if anything, it's easy to recognize.

Sorry to continue this but...

I know the two factions have completely different design philosophies (ie preservation of life versus disposable pilots), but one-on-one these two are grossly mismatched. :)
