WC4 Orchestrated

Personally, my all time favorite is the WC1-Intro. WC3-Ending (credits) is also very good. I think Quarto would agree that WC2-Victory (the ending theme) is also a good theme (it`s his favorite)... Let`s see, what else... That`s about it, I think.

LeHah, did you ever hear my WC1/2-Inflight themes? they`re a compilation of various short inflight themes edited into one large piece, very good IMHO. Also, my WC1-Briefing is also very good. You might like to check them out at http://www.blacklance.org/anonftp/pub/music/ .

Well most of WC1 music is actually great, just take the medal ceremonies of the games (especially Gold Star), the winning-debriefing track is great, as well. Then the end-theme of WC1 is just great (it is a longer version of the intro if I remember it right)

WC2 has great themes, as well, just take the music when you are talking to Tolwyn, the briefing music (halcylon's office of wc1), and the music of the cutscenes is great, as well

What about the Prophecy orchestral music? Some of it
was really cool. Was that done by Goldziey?

Yes... the WCP orchestra music was done by George Oldziey (sans G). No one knows much about the cutscene music, but it really sound far different than the rest of the WC songs.

Well, LeHah, first I'd like to compliment you on trying to get the sheet music for the WC series, it's great music.

Now, on the flip side, have you ever been to a high school concert? As an 11th grade musician, I am very insulted that you feel that HS bands are merely brass and percussion. My HS is small, but we have a hell of a lot more than brass. We have a full %@Q#$%@! band and orchestra for crying out loud! We have clarinets, tubas, oboes, flutes, you-name-it. We even have a BASSOON believe it or not. And even though a piece may SOUND easy, it isn't necessarily easy.

Oh, and arranging full orchestral/band pieces isn't as easy as you make it out to be. OK, getting the melody might, but you're still going to have to put in all the other parts, and adjust for the type of instument it is, they don't all play in the same key naturally.

"Who needs a copyright"? Do you want Origin to come down on you like the recording industry did to napster?

All aside, good luck on your endeavors

All this sounds real good!! But I would say if your going to have an orchestra put all this together, why not do the entire WC series music? This could be a neat project! I hope it gets somewhere!!

I, in the other hand, never been to to my school marching band concert. Reason: 1. We don't have a marching band concert. 2. The rock band concerts are far cooler. Good thing though, copyright issues are rarely an issue in Indonesia due to the local authorities.

I wonder, is it possible to have a rock band concert singing Cobalt60's Prophecy?

Sorry

Some people on this board have pointed out certain flaws in my logic. I will admit, I am prone that my enthusiasm blinds me and what little logic I have.

I *have* been to a few High School band assemblies, and I'm sorry if I insulted anyone when I said Brass and Percussion. However, I tend to stand-by it since, most of the band arrangements I've seen are just what I've said: Heavy brass and percussion. Got nothing against it, I'm just saying. My HS had quite a lot of people...Timpani, french horns, all sorts of shit. We made National Champion at least once that I'm sure of. Woodwinds? Sure, important as the rest of the orchestra but hard to hear over a chair's worth of angel trumpets and devil trombones!

I will admit to my weak knowledge of WC1. I started my WC insanity with WC 3, worked back to 2, then to 4 and "played" Prophecy. I do acknowledge the works pre-Oldziey, many are excellent, but you say Wing Commander music and I say Oldziey, sorry. No offense! :(

I'm still a bit confused as to what the general idea is supposed to be. Are you aiming to get Oldziey to try and release a cd of Wing Commander music that is played by an actual orchestra or are you just concerned with sheet music?

Well, I happen to be in the Charlottesville, VA school system and we have our orchestra and band in the top 5 in the country for high school. I play string bass in the orchestra and our chamber orchestra plays grade 6 music- the highest level- so I don't think this would be a huge problem. I don't think I could get the music teacher to let us play this stuff, but if someone could send me sheet music I could look at it and see how hard it is, and if it is a challenge or not. The other thing is that most of the music is probably done by a real orchestra (with woodwinds and brass). But anyways, someone email me the sheet music, my email is above this post.

Goal

I think a list of our goals should be in order:

Our main goal is to definitely get the best of Oldziey's WC music to be played by an orchestra and released to CD, perferably for profit, but non-profit is also good.

To get there, we first have to get permission from Origin/EA. That's the main hurdle and its a signifigant one. Like I said before, Oldziey is tryin to talk to EA's higher-ups to get permission so thats our first shot. After that, I play dirty...petitions usually dont work...persistance does! I'll email a list of every WingNut that wants the CD every day until we get permission to do it.

I'd also like to point out, and this part some people will hate, that we might have to fund this on donations made by fans. Yeah, orchestras and mixing is VERY expensive. I'm only familiar with the mixing part, as I did a film project two years ago and studios, even small ones, are VERY expensive. Still, if everybody pitched in at least $20 and we had good enough press from, say, a magazine like NextGen or sites like VideoGames.com, this could be realized!

Remember, fight in numbers! If we make EA believe we are unstopable, then we ARE unstoppable! Forward!

The music just keeps coming! Heh track 5's narration is priceless. My ears have never brought me such joy[well maybe once or twice , but in no way related to music :o ] :) .
loaf did you get around to ripping that demo cd, after?

I'm loathe to admit it, LeHah, but you've got a point. Lucky for my school we have a lot of virtuosos :). I'm not sure I know anyone else who plays 7 instuments and can pick one up in a couple of days. Fortunately, Vinny can't play violin, so I'm safe.

I would gladly contribute $20 toward making this happen.

I must state that I would love a cd with it, but my favorite wc music is from WCIV during the final cutscene when tolwyn is being tryed, it was available for dl off the mainpage a littlewhile ago

If you get the sheet and permission to use it why don't you organise a group of wc fans who play instrumints (sp?) and then they play a piece with their instruments and then send it by icq or other means and then blend them to tegher by overlaying them and there you go an orcrasture without the excecive cost. Assuming they will work for free. If they don't feed them to Mekt.

Midis would sound several thousand times better than everyone recording themselves individually with low quality microphones and mixing them all together. Neat idea though...

How are you going to record them though? Plus i think yo might want to at least see if its possible to record a decent sample first though because it might work and then less money to pay. If origin/ea anyone else i forgoten say yes they could do it like the unreal/deus ex music is being done via limited edition, send cheque instead of mass sale. Go forth and succede.
