unbeliever! :) That's fine, you are entitled to your opinion. but you would understand if you lived here.

TAKE THAT FROSTY!

I say those things Ace, since most people arent as well versed with movie scores as you and I, and to see if people are paying attention. Good for you for spotting my "errors".

I'd like to point out, ladies and gents and ACE, that John Williams is not as prolific a composer as many think. As anyone with a background in music can tell you, the opening fanfare to Star Wars is a complete rip of the overture to "King's Row" from the 1950s...not to mention the Emperor's theme from Return of the Jedi is the "Village of Tears" theme in Seven Samurai.

Bernard Herrmann, despite his American handicap and being dead for a number of years, is still one of the greatest composers of the 20th Century, along side David Arnold, Elliot Goldenthal (also American) and Penderecki (who's Polish, not american)...And, well, Victor Borge, though he didn't actually compose...

TC, i didn't say ALL good bands come from north texas, just bands from north texas have always been good. (most of the time anyway)

Like Rollins says...."I just hope that is young, female and pretty..."
If not....I will just play very bad....until SOMEONE send one young, female and pretty...

(This is know as terrorism :D)

Wow what the hell was the point of doing that? I honestly don't know anything about movie scores and don't ever really plan to. It's an interesting facet of composition, but I look at it more as an unfortunate evil many composers are drawn into for monetary reasons.

I never said John Williams was prolific did I? As for him blatantly ripping off other compositions...good for him. If he can build an entire 26-something year career and the most recognized name in film scoring off of plagiarism and never once be sued then I have a hell of a lot of respect for him.

What does any of this have to do with all good composers not being American and what exactly is your obsession with film scoring?

No, this is known as stupidity.

I suppose one should stick with what they know...

My obession with movie scores is just that: obession. I have pretty much every damned David Arnold score (I'm missing the 2CD of Tomorrow Never Dies Bootleg and his BBC TV work) and I'm still working on Elliot Goldenthal.

The fact you appluade people ripping off other people makes me retch. Music will remain stagnant if people continue to rip people off. Look at popular culture these days: bands are no longer about pressing the envolope, its about inoffensive "vanilla" writing about love (Britney Spears and Boy Groups) or how men use women or vice versa (every black girl group since the dawn of time).

Worse yet, people think a band like Limp Bizkit is not only "good" but "hardcore". I hear that term applied to that meandering bullsh*t and I wanna Tyler Durden the person who said it.

Ok, now im rambeling...

I was actually less appluading plagiarism and more laughing at the notion that one of the most famous composers of our time is nothing more than a two-bit thief.

Furthermore, Jesus himself couldn't descend from the very heavens and stamp out music or make it stagnant. If people want to rip off each other then great, John Composer will not stop writing music nor throw his hands up in disgust and take up accounting. The only thing plagiarism harms, or hinders the progress of, is the corportate, money making side of the music industry simply because people wouldn't rip off anything if it didn't make them so damn rich.

Um why do you care if it's labeled as "hardcore" I generally just know to avoid anything refered to as "hardcore" or "extreme", are you saying it gives a bad name to something else that's being refered to as "hardcore" or something?

The term "hardcore" has been raped by bands like Papa Roach and the like. It is correctly used, however, to describe very, very violent german techno. Thunderdome is an excellent example of this, esp considering it's motto is "Dance or Die!"

And where else can you hear people remix Army of Darkness quotes and Rambo?

-J

While I think the words raped and correctly were both a bit strong for that context, I understand what your talking about now. Huh, I don't think I've once heard anyone refer to thunderdome as "hardcore" ,probably to avoid being confused with the limp/roach "hardcore". Oh well I guess just add an extra word to each so people know which your talking about.limp/roach hardcore can now be refered to as "cartoon hardcore" and thunderdome can be "techno hardcore". I'm sure being firmiliar with english and it's flaws you've probably seen this done before, you'd have to be
un-[creature]conscious not to ;) . .....and yes, I'm aware that has to be one of the worst jokes produced throughout all of history :) .

That's the goddamn funniest thing I've heard all day...

Hardcore is porn. The name was then adapted to everything else. Hardcore Techno, hardcore metal, hardcore gregorian chant. Hardcore driving, hardcore driving. Hardcore programming, hardcore gaming, hardcore anal warts.

It's funny, though, that noone adapted softcore.
