WC2 and WC3 ships

I was referring to a mission in which Eisen tells Blair to escort the Victory as it flees to a jump point (this was in Ariel System IIRC). When I started the mission I noticed the Victory start moving towards the jump point but her escorts stayed still. They were not present at any of the navpoints where the Victory came under attack.
Interesting point, but I think my reasoning regarding the computer limitations are still relevant. It's not as though those extra capships would make that much of a difference, would it?

I'm forgetting all the details. Beowulf, Agincourt, Hell's Kitchen or was that Heaven's Gate?
Heaven's Gate is a star system in the Enigma sector, others have already been explained.

Question. Do you ever get to see a Waterloo in action during WC2?
There's the Alcatraz in the first mission of SO2, but there's little 'action' to speak of. Only two pathetic Sartha. And there's also the Gettysburg in SO1 LOAF mentioned.

In some respects, Palpatine and Tolwyn were similar men with similar ideals. Their hearts were in the right place, albeit a bit misguided. They wished to end corruption and give their respective nations some focus.
I'm not sure if Palpatine genuinely wanted an end to corruption - he deceived and created the perception of honourable leadership while creating the conflict in the galaxy as Darth Sidious.

[The Waterloo] always reminded me of the ship from the old video game Battletoads.
Heh, never thought of that one.

Good memory. One of the best games of its time.
I didn't think so. I prefer Rare's newer stuff.

Without question. Have any of you questioned the Admiral about his Black Lance forces?
Heh, good quote.

Ok, I think I have it figured out as to why the Antimater guns were phased out. Newer armor was powerful enough and the old AMG guns just couldn't penetrate the new shields or armor fast enough of deadly enough.

That said, makes me wonder who would win in this fight. Waterloo vs Hades. I suspect it would nearly be a fair fight. Assuming the Waterloo had its shields and armor upgraded (like the old ships in WC3/4 did) it could take near the same level of punishment, though it only has AMGs while the Hades has the Plasma guns. The Waterloo has 10 more fighters (assuming both ships have same era fighters). Though I belive the deciding factor might be the Hades having superior speed and closing range to clobber the Waterloo with its Plasma guns.

Those blue balls of antimatter didn't look anywhere near as realistic as the yellow AMG bolts. But then again, only a few blasts of the old AMG cannon would eat a Fralthra.

Hehe... what?

How do you know what a fictional weapon should realistically look like? :)

That's not the point. If we only had ships that made a difference, the Kilrathi wouldn't have Dralthis and we wouldn't have wingmen ;)

that they do... after replaying WC3, i never noticed how high you cna get your killscore... same with Prophecy... really high numbers... i never really checked my killscore for WC4 though... i think it's b/c it's in an odd place unlike WC3 and WCP where it's more in the open... it's better in the open... however i found that the killboard for WC1 rather funny since it's the future and they use chalk...

Same answer as the Midway vs Vesuvius fight. There wouldn't be any, because they're both Confed. ;) Okay, okay, so the Gettysburg mutinied. But we didn't actually fight it.

Odd thing I found with WC3 is that after finishing the game, you can restart the game, and still keep your killscore! Can't remember exactly how it's done - haven't played WC3 for months. Unfortunately, dead wingmen stay dead.

Old joke. Maybe they're nostalgic?

Do you remember what happens with the FMV involving these wingmen? I assume they're played nevertheless...

I've never seen the Hades in action, but they must be better than the Waterloos, since they're replacing the Waterloos.

As for kill scores, they always range into the hundreds. I don't know about you guys but I think I'd have a hard time keeping a straight face if I had to tell someone what my killscore was.

[WC4 Intro Scene on Nephele]

Bartender: "So, you a vet?"
Blair: "Yeah."
Bartender: "So how many you kill?"
Blair: "Thousand or so, give or take a couple hundred."
Maniac: "That's nothing! I got two thousand! Two thouuusand! Am I not the Maniac?!"
Bartender: "Whatever you guys say."

nostalgia my friend.....there is still room for that in the future

...never realized.....adding all kills up....that's shitloads...
I guess everyone of us always aimed for more than the kids around the block and probably got that as well. (remember those
all nighters....the one mission which kept failing cuz you wanted to kill that one cat extra)

:D

i remember when my friend got WC3... we would fly the simulator mission 10 where you have to the kill the most cats in a certain amount of time... that one always started a debate...

First point: I'm fairly sure George Lucas hasn't explained exactly how the Jedi are destroyed.

Second point: Its not an admiral's job to determine what society's focus ought to be.
Sure he does, in book 8. Anakin(or, as he was known then, Vader) developed a device which would show an "aura" around jedi, blue for Jedi, red for Sith. Just point, look at the monitor, and hope that you're not getting a lightsabre through the face while trying to figure out what color the aura was. If it was blue, the guy was immediatley executed(or they tried to anyway). If red, they would be turned to the Dark Side, and used by the Emperor much as Palpatine used Vader, Maul, and that other, sissy Sith.

Star Wars books don't count for anything. Star Wars has a stated canon policy that explains that Lucas doesn't need to maintain continuity with the expanded universe (things that aren't the movie, scripts, novels of the movies or radio plays). He hasn't been maintaining this continuity and I doubt he will for Episode 3.

About the only books which are canon for Lucas are the novelizations of his screenplays. And even THOSE sometimes need to be taken with a grain of salt. :D

Yeah, only compulsory FMV sequences are played - optional ones aren't.
