Most aggravating WC mission

I have to agree with CFF I hated the recon mission on Lycos 4 (think) in WCIV flying alone in a Hellcat (UGH).

Not a particularly hard mission but flying a Hellcat is about as fun as nailing jelly to a tree.

I have to agree with CFF I hated the recon mission on Lycos 4 (think) in WCIV flying alone in a Hellcat (UGH) with ground fire and Vindicators guarding every NAV point, its the only mission in WCIV that gives me heartburn. I finally mastered that mission but every time I replay WCIV I loathe flying that mission.

The planet was Tyr VII, the mission was Tyr 1. If you failed the mission, you had to do it again while escorting a shuttle in Tyr 2 (if you won, you only had to visit one nav point).

The PSX port of Wing Commander IV replaces these missions with space-based missions in which you recon three spacelabs (why there are three spacelabs in the Tyr System is beyond me). Instead of dogfighting pairs of Vindicators at each point you fight Banshees... it's a lot easier.

I forgot the end mission of SO 1, very tough, whenever I fly the Sabre I get my ass shot off though. Probably because I think it is tougher than it is lol.

WCIV Recon mission - Really hard indeed. Too much to handle at the same time in a lone Hellcat. But it is passable. I had a hellish tim with it when playing the first time, in a friend's computer which wasn't very fast. Trick is to kill the Missile turret first thing, it is really dangerous to dogfight the powerful Vindies while having to dodge IR after IR. And remember, one missile is all that takes to kill you in WC4

Two Fralathas in SO's end - I remember reading somewhere about a mission where two Kat capships can be tricked into shooting each other, don't know if it's this one.

PRIV (not RF) escort the books mission - Never knew what's so hard about it, I just dished massive destruction at the Demons. Not a difficult thing to do in a fully loaded Centurion (ramming works well here)

Save the Panthers - REALLY annoying, I think it is too hard for a mission so early in a game. But It became easy after I discovered the power of the CMD. I really hate losing pilots in WCP, they all have names, killboard entries and backgrounds (if you have the official gameguide).

I hated losing wingmen in any of the games, I can't remember how many times I replayed WC1 missions because Hunter or Iceman got wasted. Or when Spirit dies in WC2, I hated that, or WC3 when you lose Hobbes, or (getting repetative) Vagabond in WC4 I hated that. Blair too, but that was just crazy, I read something that if they continued making the games he may have returned as a villian.

Well, the problem in WCP is that you have a lot more wingmen to lose, because all of them have names and you fly along with more than onw wing in many occasions. So it is alot harder to keep them alive. It's the hardest game to get everyone through, discounting the ones that die in the story.

Wierd, I never had a problem with losing to many wingman (if any) in Prophecy. Or I just forgot since I haven't played it in a while. They always ejected, always, creepy always.

Guess it is nice to have a war with only enemy kills. Just imagine if all the pilots in Confed had kills scores like Blair and Maniac, that would be one hell of a Kilrathi Turkey Shoot, turn the Kilrathi War into Desert Storm.

I used to play WCP in Nightmare. It's the only way...

any mission where you have to fly an epee. I made a discovery, the last time I flew one I discovered that the so called armor is nothing but a thick coat of paint.

The last time I played WC2 I played it fast, on a fast computer so it ran real quick. I used to flinch when the screen flashed up cause once you lit up you were dead in a like two seconds, even if a Drakhri was shooting at you. Pretty rough...was fun though. Kinda sucked getting shot down in broadswords from supply depots.

Documentation in the books is wrong, those flak cannons have a much farther range than what they say, they always start firing at me at 9000m.

I run WC2 deluxe edition on a 1.2 ghz it has 3 problems
#1 there is no sound
#2 they talk at warp speed
#3 and the worst is that you can't move and shoot at the same time :(

#1 It depends on which sound card do you have
#2 There are some ways to slow it down to a playable speed.
#3 Are you playing with the keyboard?

Think over it and start a thread at the Tech Support Forums. We don´t want to hijack this one.

I didn't mind playing it fast....I had to be faster. It was wierd though, in escort missions were easier, I remember them being easier.

i don't recall any mission from wc1,3,4,P or SO that was difficult. the only thing that i found hard to do was a torp run in wc2. that is realy hard since the torp runs in wc3,4,P and so are much easier

It's not exactly hard, but I always hate the "Keep Bhurak away from the Draymans" mission in wc1. Krants can be the most annoying little suckers when they want to be, but a juke-happy furball in a Salthi is just enough to get under my skin. Especially when you're in a bloody Scimitar (good ship, but not terribly good at really fast kills on small, quick-moving targets that like to kill Draymans).

(...) there was one mission (I believe in SM1) where, in a Scimitar, you escort a pair of Draymans carrying the Slepneirs (sp?). I don't know if it's a bug in Kilrathi Saga or not, but every time, the Draymans will start colliding after I'd autopilot to the nav point in between the mine fields, and end up somehow throwing each other hundreds of thousands of kilometers off course, to the point where I'd have to autopilot after them, and then try to get them back to that same navpoint time and again.

There have been times when playing through that I'll actually try to lose the damn things, just to avoid going through that. :p

Oh yes, I remember that problem too. It was such an annoying mission.

I ALWAYS save the Draymen, but Bhurak ALWAYS runs away.

I just downloaded the SM and SO series just over a month ago. I'm through with SM1, and somehow got stuck on SM2.

Saving the Ralari from the Gratha is one, then WC3's final sortie, the T-bomb run to Kilrah. I just keep losing my wingmen for no apparent reason, where there's no cats in sight. On my final leg to Kilrah, there's Hobbes anf Prince T are ganging up on me and tearing my excal to shreds! Curses!!!

I'm still stuck at SM2 trying to save the Draymans for the Firekka assault. Damn Salthis...

As for the Johann....strangely I thrashed both that ship and its escorts. I always keep that ship between me and the Rapiers so they'll either have the exeter in their line of fire or just get crashed on it With their figther cover down to 1 or 2 they're easy prey for my Raptor's guns.... This is the same tactic I do when I'm up against cap ship attacks with heavy fighter cover. I tend to use a lot of afterburners though.

Now back to SM2... Aw blast it! I'm down to the last Salthi and he rammed me!!
$#@@$#%

I don't know if you noticed, but when you're just flying in space and no dogfight, your guns fire rapidly and recharge quickly. But once I get to dance, man, my guns are so slow!!!

If I set the game on GOD mode, my gun response are back, even better! I can give a Salthi or a Gratha a doze of their medicine!!!
