Most aggravating WC mission

In your opinion, which mission in any of the WC games is the most aggravating?

Mine would have to be any escort/defend cap ship missions in the first two WC games, they were extremely hard for me.

Kurosawa - Defend the Ralari. Most impossible mission ever.
people beat once every 100 tries. it's stupid, really.

Wing Commander 1 - Defend the Ralari mission (Kursawa Mission 2); 4 Salthi in the asteroid belt, and then 4 Gratha attacking the Ralari. Easy with a slow processor (i.e. 12 MHz), freakin' impossible with a fast one (50MHz and up). I dunno how anyone beats it anymore; I certainly can't.

The problem was not beating the salthis and grathas, it was killing the grathas before they killed the Ralari. It shows how crappy and useless those destroyers are.

BTW, all WC1 capships but the Claw seem useless. What are their combat capabilities?? A hornet can kill a destroyer without much fuss. What can a Exeter actually do in combat? The WC3 capships are a lot cooler... And WC2 ones at least are not prey to light recon fighters.

They are useless on the game, because their capabilities are not simulated on the game engine. When Ralgha defects on SM2, his Fralthi is fleeing from another Fralthi at close range, and all the ships do is exchange flak turret fire. THat is, I think, the only capship-capship engagement of WC1.

The capship capabilities and combat are only meaningfully simulated on WC2. They fight on WC3/4, but don't use big powerful weapons. On the WCP/WCSO, the AI doesn't specifically target the engines and bridges.

I like the cap fights in wc3. they may not have many special cap weapons, like BFGs... They could also launch torps... but they don't. What they do is launching capship missiles.

Aside from the obvious Save the Ralari mission, there was one mission (I believe in SM1) where, in a Scimitar, you escort a pair of Draymans carrying the Slepneirs (sp?). I don't know if it's a bug in Kilrathi Saga or not, but every time, the Draymans will start colliding after I'd autopilot to the nav point in between the mine fields, and end up somehow throwing each other hundreds of thousands of kilometers off course, to the point where I'd have to autopilot after them, and then try to get them back to that same navpoint time and again.

There have been times when playing through that I'll actually try to lose the damn things, just to avoid going through that. :p

The Ralari mission!!!!!

I beat it the first time I played the game (a fluke, its all about strategic ramming until yolu can't anymore), then I found out how hard it was and only have beat it like one other time. Hell I usually bomb the series before so I can just go to Rostov and fly with Iceman.

The very last mission of Special Operations 1, where you have to kill the two Fralatha in the wow-that's-a-lot-of-torpedoes-on-my-fighter Sabre is pretty tough, at least for me. They're really good at aiming those Anti-Matter guns, and the Sabre's shields don't withstand too many hits; if you can manage to kill off all the Gothri beforehand with little damage, it helps a whole lot :)

Yup and yup. There are no really hard missions in WCP, but the "Defang the beast" mission does annoy me because they could just give me a frickin bomber in the first place.

Theres a mission I've been stuck on in Prophecy Advanced that requires you to take down 2 cap ships, torpedo bombers and protect the Midway in a set time. I've had to stop playing because of that damned mission.

"Save the Ralari" is very, very tough (ramming Gratha seems to be the only answer I could find), but my vote goes to the third Jotunheim mission of SM1. Getting to the Johann (Gwenhyvar) through 4 Gratha and 4 Jalthi isn't too hard, but defeating the 4 captured, Kilrathi flown Confed Rapiers guarding the Gwenhyvar is another matter. The best I ever did was to destroy the Gratha, the Jalthi, 1 Rapier, and seriously damage a second before I had to eject. One strategy guide I have claims that you'll face 22 enemy ships in that mission. The guide suggests treating the mission like a "Mulligan"- eject, take the Golden Sun, and move on with the game. I had to try it a couple of times with invincibility turned on before I finally gave up.

I dunno what problems everyone has with the Ralari mission. Grated it isn't easy, but I usually make it on 4th try or so. To quote Maniac: "RAMMING SPEED". Best strategy seems to ram the Gratha so they loose aim.
My real nightmare is and will be Jotunheim 3 - The Johann/Gwenhyvar mission.
Also some of the ground missions in Wc4 are UGLY.

I have to agree with CFF I hated the recon mission on Lycos 4 (think) in WCIV flying alone in a Hellcat (UGH) with ground fire and Vindicators guarding every NAV point, its the only mission in WCIV that gives me heartburn. I finally mastered that mission but every time I replay WCIV I loathe flying that mission.

Yeah, repetitive nav points, but very difficult. As for the Johann, I stumbled on the best way to win this my second time through the game. Run strafing run after strafing run on the Exeter, using as little burner as possible, saving as much as you can for your retreat to the Claw. This has the added bonus that most of the time, your Kilrathi counterparts in their Rapiers will run into the Johann repeatedly, sometimes leaving you with only 1 or 2 rapiers to deal with if you choose to stay and fight.
Then, usually beat to hell, hope you have saved enough fuel to afterburn at least out of range of the Krants and Gratha (or hope your ship is undamaged enough to take them on). I usually take on the Krants (not much of a match for a Raptor, even a damaged one. . . the Gratha is another story) but have just enough fuel left to put enough distance between me and the Gratha's to make it to the Claw.

C-ya

I don't know if anybody had difficulty with this one, but in Righteous Fire there's an escort mission in oxford (Masterson Mission 4) that made me crazy for days.

That´s my #1, too. If you survive those pesky Gothris AND the relentless AMG bolts, you also have to pray for your torpedo pass safely by the Fralthas flak turrets.

I wonder if their AMG would damage each other, if you get an eclipse angle on them.
