Midway Class: Undergunned?

I don't think the Midway is undergunned for the following
reasons:

1. BFG (once it's working).

Well, the Midway was never designed to carry a big bug-gun. (Nice that it has a double-hull to mount it between :) ). The last ship to carry something like that was the PTC on the Confederation class carriers (Concordia and her like), however the powerplant proved unreliable (if it goes, you could lose your whole carrier in one shot).

2. On-board carrier wings act as its guns -- it can launch
strikes and kill bad guys before they even know the
Midway is in the area.

Exactly. The Midway is meant to be a Carrier, making its Bomber wings its primary offensive weapon. You take out the enemy from long range, at no risk to the primary ship. You don't fight at close range where the risk to the primary ship is much higher. Even an outgunned enemy may get a lucky hit, crippling or destroying your ship. Lose your carrier and you pretty much lose the sector.

3. In WCP, the Midway fired a volley of 'training missiles'
at the Tiamat. I assume that those were capship missiles
without the warheads. So load up some real missiles
and go to town!

Yes. The Midway has a capship missile launcher. Unfortunately, she was only on a shakedown mission, so presumeably they only training missiles on board (otherwise why not launch armed missiles?)

The Midway also has Ion Cannon for defence against enemy capships, although we don't see them in action in the game because we don't see the Midway clash 1-on-1 with an enemy capship. You don't fire them at fighters because they track to slowly to be likely to hit - you are just as likely to hit a friendly fighter as an incoming bomber.

4. If the bad guys ever get close to the Midway -- its
supposed to be part of a battlegroup, right? Let the
escorting Plunketts and the Midway's fighters solve the
problem while the Midway runs away.

In peacetime, the Midway is designed to be able to serve on her own, without the need for a backup fleet. Her bomber wings and, in an emergency, her capship missile launcher and ion guns, should be more then enough to deal with any Kilrathi renegade or pirate vessel. In wartime, she becomes part of a carrier group, and, as you said, the escorts deal with any interlopers while the Midway runs away. You don't want to risk losing your carrier if you can possibly help it.

Radioactive Space Bunnies in the engines huh? Any relation to the Pornographic Grease Monkeys on the flight deck? :D

And the Pizza Packs that Colonal Christopher "Earthworm" Blair packed into his dragon on his way out of the Black Lance Base, right after Evinn Lee Body died

Which one dude there are 3 concordia
1. Confederation Class Dreadnought Concordia Destroyed at vespus
2. Concordia Class Fleet Carrier Concordia destoryed at McAlliuff
3. Concordia Class SuperCruiser Concordia Fate Unknown, though it is likely that it was destroyed at some point before the Confederation Dreadnought Connie was made

Well, I cannot say how many guns have a Vesuvius, if you start to count then in the game model you will notice that several that are in the movies are missing on the model, since Napoleon have gone to the trouble of actually doing that, EW sould have not make that remark towards him.
If I really dont know, I keep my mouth shut about it.

Yep, the mumber of toilets, right EW, it could also be the mumber of TVs aboard that ship or the mumber of crew or the mumber of radioactive space bunnys that power the engine
I agree with Napolean on this one.

Dragon, are you completly immune to sarcasm, or do you just pretend to be? The point is that there's absolutely nothing to suggest that number represents the number of turrets on the Vesuvius.

The actuall number from the game doesn't matter... the Conie has more AMG guns officialy than it really has in the game, and as we all know the Midway doesn't have those Ion cannons in the game.

EW sould have not make that remark towards him.
Erm, what remark?

Well, every time a toilet is flushed, the crap is burnde into methane which runs the lasers, so i believe that the number of turrets is controlled by the number of toilets.

Where do you think the Mass in a Mass Driver comes from?

Or maybe that should be a Mess Driver, or an Ass Driver :D

It seems that the Concordia super-cruiser is just another way of referring to the dreadnought from WC2, unless this is a WC movie ship or some obscure class.

My big question is where did they put the ion cannon on the Midway? There werent any turrets other than the laser weapons, and no obvious large fixed-mount guns (unless you count the crystal)... in a ship that large mounting the big guns on turrets would probably be advisable, and mounting a large-weapon turret on a recessing mount would most likely be a waste of taxpayers money as well as a major structural comprimise.

I do not think the MIdway is undergunned if she really has those Ion cannons. If you want to see undergunned ships, look at the bug ships, especially the Tiamat: It is about twice the size of the Midway and carries half of her weaponry. OK, she has the big Plasma Cannon, but she was destroyed without firing it once.
In fact the only bug ship that is not undergunned (at least in terms of AA(or should I use AS-Anti Spacecraft) armament is the Leviathan. But why does it only have shield protection for one of her two launchers?
Those bugs are really not smart

I think the Dreadnought had enough weapons...if I had to destroy it I needed some attempts to be not destroyed by it.
And to destroy all its weapons needed some time.It could have been more, but I wouldn't call it undergunned.

The dreadnought only took me longer to destroy because its weapons were so widespread but a Leviathan is a much deadlier capship. Look the dreadnought has the same weapons as the destroyer, they are only harder to destroy.

Never thought about that. Could be right. Would be interesting to look it up (played P the last time 3 weeks ago). But then: Why is it so?

I am afraid I do not understand what you mean.
Why they are harder to destroy? Because they have thicker armor.
Or why the Dreadnought has the same weaponsloadout as the destroyer? Well, perhaps because the bugs are stupid, I don't know?
