Midway Class: Undergunned?

Also thought about it, but it had some weapons against enemy Capital ships (if I just remember it right). But I also thought it were too less!

You were spoiled by the Concordia (CV-65) -- the Midway is a standard carrier, and as thus *not* supposed to come within range of enemy ships (the old water-navy quote is that if you let your carrier come within range of enemy battleships, you deserve to die).

I know. But I never 'served' on the Concordia (I don't own the first 3 WC games). Because of that I never had to make a defensive battle to save it. So I can't compare the Midway with it.
And how was the discussion: If you have to fight against an enemy battleship: Use your fighters,'cause they're made for it (some). And the Midway is so big with so weak shields, if they had to fight against an enemy ship, the crew of the other ship would be very stupid if they shot beside it...

About the Midway

well look at the neph..nuppet... the bugs in WCP
their capital ships sucked big ;( the barracuda a big cuccumber I never got hit by this and any fighter bomber scout coould take it down with ease... then we have the destroyers *cough* sure you needed torpedos or the plasma of the devastator to take out its engines but its armament was a joke you just circled and fired to get rid of its turrets same goes for the cruisers... you had to run on the Nightmare skill for them to even posses a threat...

but what do I know Im just a cadet ;)

Midway was kinda under powered when it came to turrets and missle launchers, but after that humongus crystal was installed (plasma weapon), that made up for it!

If they would just have been able to fire the Plasma Weapon more than just one time...(but then the game would have become propably boring).
So they used it one time and then never again. 'Cause the risk was too high to destroy the Midway with it.'
But it was a good weapon.

Ya one time was kinda blah, but then there would have not been any more missions to fly the Vampire in! Then the game could have ended a few points after the first time fireing that weapon. But I am shure they found a way to improve the fire control so that it wont blow up the Midway. If I was head of fleet operations or in a position to make the decision, I would duplicate that puppy and mount one on each Midway class ship and maybe a few others. If the Midway class ships are stand alone "eggs in one basket" carrier, it would definately need boosted self defense.

Simple!

Without huge Christmas Tree light: undergunned.

With huge Christmas Tree light: perfect!

And with regards to us being spoilt by the Concordia, well, the Midway is a multi purpose ship, so why can't it be a multi purpose battleship with a nice big Christmas Tree light? :)

I don't know WHY I'm in the festive season...that passed ages ago :/

Yep that definately makes one heck of a decoration doesnt it! Gives that ship a distinction. Ya know, hair on its chest! The one thing I was puzzled about that humongus chrystal was how the heck did those bugs fit that into their ship killer? Looks to me like the chrystal would be a bit too long. The bug ship killer had more width size than length. Must have been a tight fit! It was also very neat how the Midway's design between the lauch bays was just the right size for that chrystal.

I say the Midway Class is not undergunned becuase they are supposed to have heavy Ion cannons added as well, it just has not been done yet to the midway. While the Vesuvius class ships had/have more guns, with their 8 amg's and 32 laser turrets, the midways were built to be cheaper and inferior to the Vesuvii

I don't think the Midway is undergunned for the following
reasons:

1. BFG (once it's working).
2. On-board carrier wings act as its guns -- it can launch
strikes and kill bad guys before they even know the
Midway is in the area.
3. In WCP, the Midway fired a volley of 'training missiles'
at the Tiamat. I assume that those were capship missiles
without the warheads. So load up some real missiles
and go to town!
4. If the bad guys ever get close to the Midway -- its
supposed to be part of a battlegroup, right? Let the
escorting Plunketts and the Midway's fighters solve the
problem while the Midway runs away.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

The Midway class is not undergunned, Its does not have the Vesuvius Class weapons but like all carriers its main weapon its the fighters that carries, the weapons are there as a last ditch chance in case the fighters dont finnish of their target and the ship have to do it to survive.
Its anti-fighter defences work quite well, I usually taunt a fighters and lead him towards the Midways defences, they dont long in there....

The Ion cannons are alredy there, even if we don't see them in the game.

Excue me, but where did you get those numbers? I don't belive there's any source that lets us know how many turrets the Vesuvius class carries...

Ok well, as far as I have counted there are 8 anti-matter gun turrets that are used in it's battle against the st. helens. also aboard the intrepid when panther and hawk are discussing her and then you go to ella, you see the number 32 and all the turrets are highlighted, also IIRC when Eisen appears after the St. Hellens first comes you see the same numbers when he says, "even these things have weak spots"

And that tells us absolutely nothing.

As far as we know, that 32 represents the number of toilets on the Vesuvius....

Great. Has something.. Could have been of mine: To compare a number of guns with a number of toilets..(I don't think there should have been a connection....or did they think the Intrepid is so bad, that they had made a joke with it? I really don't believe this was thought like that..).

If that number represented the number of toilets on board, that alone should scare away any threat! If turrets fail, just flush em out with 32 flushes!!! :D QUADRUPLE PEW!

Yep, the mumber of toilets, right EW, it could also be the mumber of TVs aboard that ship or the mumber of crew or the mumber of radioactive space bunnys that power the engine
I agree with Napolean on this one.
