Just a note about the board...

Mind you, the US is the most embarassed when it comes to things sexual. People in Englad giffaw at the fact that we're so childish about how we censor sexual things. Japan is the same, they know what they like and they know what sells.

Well, Pokemon is mass commericalism, as opposed to Mononoke Hime, Evangelion or Trigun but even they sell a good deal of toys, CDs, etc. Pokemon, however, is JUST about commercialism.

Eva is JUST about writing a goddamned brilliant anime series. :D

All of those things are about making money.

Which is to say, there's absolutely no difference between an elitist fanboy buying a Vash action figure and a kid buying a Pikachu doll <G>

That's why I like Pokemon -- it's not pretentious at all <G> And it's bright and alive... makes you want to live a long life:)

That's why I like Eva -- for it's Kubrick-like use of music. Where else can you see a girl get mind-raped along to the 9th ?

Trust me, no matter how well done it was on TNG, it was far more vivid and messed up on Eva.

It makes me glad I don't *have* a little sister! :D
Well the main reason I dislike Pokemon so much is that stupid Dutch dub. I hate Dutch dubs in General. But they have to dub everything labeled cartoon these days it seems.
I'm just glad DBZ wasn't Dutch dubbed. And glad in General I don't live in Germany or France, where they dub everything. We just subtitle, which I can live with.

And mpanty. I got the DB manga today... I love it!!
But right-to-left reading is HARD! Damned Japanese! :p

I do, it was on TV a couple of years here in Portugal. Blood everywhere and a lot of heavy metal. The story was weak though.

Mmmmhhh... true, in France they dub a lot...
But cable channels very often don't, and just subtitle...
Canal Jimmy and Serie Club notably, very often air American series and sitcoms, such as Friends, NYPD Blue, Ally McBeal, Oz... in their original version (with subtitles of course)...

In movie theatres, there's always a good half that shows the movie in its orinal version, whatever that language might be...

Eh... :) Weren't you just complaining about too much dubbing in France? :p
Wait... you can read Japanese?

Hmm, I think I heard of it but never saw it. But if there's a lot of blood and good music, what do you want a story for :D?

No I can't (wish I could though), I meant Japanese as in people from Japan. But I have the brand new Viz comics English translation. It's uncensored and printed in the original right-to-left format. Which means that while the text is English, you have to read pages, pictures, speech balloons and effects backwards. Although not totally backwards, just right-to-left, but still top-to-bottom. That can get confusing. It's just so against my nature to do that.
Also, when you see the book it looks like the cover is printed on the wrong side. When I have the time, maybe I'll scan a page to show you what I mean.
The first page in (for us westerners) the right direction says "Wait, you're reading this book in the wrong direction" and gives an explanation on how to read it!

LOL That's weird... :)
The French version is in the "right way" for Westerners... but I see what you mean, there are some stores here that sell the Manga in original version, so I didn't get the "handling way" at first either when I looked at them... :D

That probably means your version is printed mirrored. They have to be, because otherwise getting the speech balloon etc. order right would be impossible.
The reason mine are right-to-left is because the manga artists don't like the mirroring, because it can reveal small errors in perspective, and reverse symbols in Romaji (like Y A M would become M A Y).
And it adds to the authenticity for me, so I like it. You get used to it.
If I can get at the PC when I get home (depends on my brother) I'll scan a page like I said and post it somewhere and post the URL here.

Mmmmhh... that's an interesting point, this "mirroring" thing... I think though, the panels are just put into the right order (for Westerners) and then translated...
It would be interesting to compare the Japanese and French versions to see if the "erros in perspective" you mention are present... AFAIK and IIRC, there weren't any...
