Man LOAF, being a little harsh on the stupid dipshit aren't you? :)

Anyway, several other companies sell game music that must do well cause they keep selling it. For instance, you can buy the soundtrack to all the C&C games from Westwood. Blizzard just recently announced a Starcraft music CD with music from the game and music inspired by the game from the best Korean musicians. Why Korean? Cause in Korea they have Starcraft TV where you just watch people playing SC. They have SC figures on cereal boxes, they must be obsessed with it.
So if they sold soundtracks to the games while the games were still being sold on stores shelves it might sell better. I'll tell you this though, I never did once see that WCP soundtrack at any store. I had to order it from amazon.com but still checked every music store when I visited it. If they can't even get it in stores it really won't sell that well. Either that or they need to advertise it more like how Westwood does. Which is now under the EA umbrella BTW.

Game soundtracks can indeed be profitable these days... but you won't see companies risking money to produce new soundtracks of *old* games.

And I'm sorry for being harsh on the guy -- it's just that people have been searching for the first Origin soundtrack for over a decade now, with no success. :)

Ah, but some of the old game sountracks are best: I know it, you know it, and the american people know it. The trick is that for the most part, noone would give it a chance. Some WCers would, some would swear that it sucked because only the original music is best and they wouldn't buy it. Others just wouldn't bother.

There is a way that they could make it work.. I know there is. It's hovering on the edge of my mind, and it won't come into the light for me to get a good look at it.

Tell ya what, lemme go get an axe and see how the little fucker likes THAT. I'll get back to ya.

Well, I agree that I'd love to have a soundtrack -- and there are people high up there who think it's a good idea, too (in fact, I actually have a demo CD that George Oldziey wanted to try to convince Origin to produce a WC soundtrack with...).

Not on purpose -- I'm at the library, so I don't have an IRC client (save the javathing... which is verrrry painful). Another half hour here and I can go to a job interview and then head home and get back to #WingNut <G>

Ah, gotcha. Not that you're missing anything exciting at the moment, I was just confused.

"LOAF must be cloaked... what a freak."

And again, damn 50 second rule. Can't we cut that to 30 seconds? That should work just as well without being truly annoying.

Yeah, the 50 second rule is annoying... (well, not to me, I don't think it applies to me:)) -- but it prevents people from just posting things like "I agree" in response to every thread.

But tell Hades or Kris to change it, if you want.

It does, and I agree with that. But I happen to type pretty quickly, and even some of the moderately sized posts end up triggering the damn thing. This one likely will. Dammit.

It *used* to apply to me, so there must be some way to disable it on certain people... perhaps that's the solution.

Doesnt that also prevent the continuous posting to prevent one from climbing in rank due to senseless posts?

RFB

Yeah, but a 30 second rule should also help that without being a pain in the ass to most people. I often type out a post and then have to wait a bit before I can submit it.

AHHRG

Stop discussing just listen to these nice files!!
Tell me what you think and listen carefully because these files really sound different or (my opinion) more wc like!!

Compare it to the fantastic(crappy music update you'll hear the difference

WC2
http://protest.exit.mytoday.de/cadfael/Wc2.mp3

and
Privateer Retromusic
http://protest.exit.mytoday.de/cadfael/PrivRetro.mp3

Note:
These are just demofiles and just about a minute long.
The quality might increase because i dunno how to use mp3 files!
Ok thanks just tell me if you like them or if they suck!!

I can't right now being at work and all, but once I get home tonight I'll be sure to download them so that I can ridicule you.

What is it that you tried to do that makes you think they sound better?

Best I can tell he has a similar but louder, less clear version. Hard to tell though I can't get much more then a few seconds of his version, before the download stops.

I figured it'd be something along those lines. Most of what he could do with them is alter the equalizer settings, and I'm pretty sure they'd have had them pretty close to being exactly right before the game shipped.

OK, TyeDye, now I know who you were referring to. Boy, for someone who hasn't been here that long, he sure is arrogant. :( Anyone bothered with those so called better MP3s yet, cos I can't at the moment. I wonder what Mad Hatter will say about them. :)

As for the 50 second rule, I type reasonably fast too, so 2-3 line replies get me too.

I know George Oldziey, at least, has a definite interest in recording the Wing Commander music... but he does not own it, and therefore cannot do this.
Pity, I thought he did a good job with the WC1/2 tunes. He must have had a pretty good studio to work with.
