behemoth

Perhaps the USSR did suffer, but it also suffered due to the large bureaucracy that was too afraid to do anything except Stalin's wishes.

World War Two was probably THE BEST thing that has ever happened to the American economy. Same could be said for the period after in Europe. It would be more sensible to liken ConFed to Europe rather than the USSR as many similar governmental systems would exist.

WW2 was the only thing that got the world out of Depression fast due to the HUGE amounts of spending. Keynsian theory at its finest!

Eh... WWII was a total disaster for Europe. The only reason Europe recovered so quickly was because America pumped lots and lots of money into Europe. In the case of WC, Confed is Europe, and there is no United States to bail it out of trouble. Heck, WC4 tells us just how bad things got.

BTW, didn't Keynes' theory turn out to be an embodiment of stupidity? At least, I think I recall everybody steering away from it because it didn't work :).

Keynes theories did work for demand side problems, of which the depression was one. It was dumped in the 70's due to supply side factors which Keynes' theory did not account for, namely the oil price supply shocks of 73 and 79.

I do not totaly agree with you. Of course, keeping an huge force is pointless.
But even during peacetime nations need to have a powerful army. Because in case of trouble you don't the have time nor the money to build one. It takes years and many Bilions of USD to build an aircraft carrier for instance. And I do not mention the escort ships, the fighters and so on.

I think you're short-sheeting Behemoth... had Behemoth been completed, with her full armor, shield generators and turret mounts she'd have been a far better protected weapon -- and, presumably, any *new* Behemoths produced without the rush of the war would have these things <G>

Further, it's possible that production of the second Behemoth began during the war -- or, at least, Confed decided not to let what were surely incredibly expensive shipyards go to waste <G>

What I don't grasp well, is why the Senate's decision was so clouded by this desire for peace! I mean, the Kilrathi had committed some atrocius things, people back from POW camps were the witnesses...
Was the desire for peace and the hope that strong?
Was Jamison's influence that big?(...)

and blowing up a planet like confed did isent an attrocity?

Or a misspelLED name.... :) (I just can't help myself when I see that...there is no such word as 'misspelt'.)

How did you get the picture for the Seahawk? Draw it yourself?
Scanned from the Strategy Guide, given a light screen of color, and placed over a background.

And how much of the those R&D stuff is fiction?
Pretty much all of it. For most of the ships there I have more comprehensive narratives, as well as full spec listings, but chopped them down to fit the feel of that section.

Again, a great site, 'twas very enjoyable to read.
Thanks!

A question. Just what state was the Confed military in when the bugs first showed up? I mean there were a whole lot of new fighters available, at least 4 new types of capital ship (Midway, Hades, Murphy & Plunkett) coming online, several Vesuvius carriers active and presumably 1 or more Behemoths. Add to that the ships left from the war and maybe the Confed govt is justified in thinking the military could cope with any crisis that should suddenly arise. Afterall it did in fact defeat 2 hostile invasions.
Am I missing anything?

Confed's navy is made up of aging war-era ships... and they're not spending much money to upgrade it -- that's why everyone screams bloody murder regarding readiness...

We need to drag the Behemoths out of mothmballs. Why?

TO FREAK OUT OUR ENEMIES!!!!!

I don't think the bugs would be too scared of the Behemoth. Afterall we can't get it anywhere near their planets.

Their wormholes arent going anywhere. Blow away thier towers in one blast without losing any Marine insertion teams.

Well, I think it works better than the Monetarists' theory. :) Perhaps they were the ones who described it as 'stupidity' where you read it.

Actually, my Oxford English dictionary lists both misspelt and mispelled, but who cares? :)

Well, you know how it is, Wedge... it's economics, so I was probably too sleepy to pay any proper attention :).

but it wouldn't make too fun of a last mission to fly around the Midway while it shoots now would it? :)
