WC4 Mod For Homeworld 2 In The Works (June 5, 2006)

***** TOP SECRET *****

Terran Confederation Office of Naval Intelligence

Colonel, we have acquired information about fighter craft deployed by the Union of Border Worlds, which will be forwarded to your attention.

The Vindicator is a medium-fighter armed with anti-ship torpedoes, a pair of laser and tachyon guns. Despite is relatively light anti-fighter armament, it represents a clear threat for frigates and smaller capital ships and should not be underestimated.

The Avenger torpedo bomber is a large, unwieldy craft reminiscent of a shuttle, however packed with as many anti-ship torpedoes as a longbow, and is reported to be a tough enemy to shoot down, especially with its dangerous rear mass driver turret. Prioritize it as you would a squadron of Paktahn threatening the Admiral's latest toy.

Addendum: we have been reported that the Border Worlders are currently installing on these two fighters autocannons caracterized by a high rate of fire but a small targeting cone, making them devastating weapons during the initial frontal encounter but almost useless in close-range dogfights, given the low agility of these two crafts. Avoid engaging these fighters from the front if you have confirmation that they equipped these Stormfire guns. Unconfirmed data indicates that they might be installing more exotic weaponry on these ships ton enhance the tactical options of their limited forces.

Hrmmm. I get the same wonderful "General Error" message. I tried unsubscribing, deleting the mod folder to force a re-download of the .big files; and tried unsub and resub. Still get the same general error. The only thing that seems to stand out is the fatal exit when it tries to find "SoundConfig.lua". I'm currently having Steam check the local game cache integrity but I think that only will work on the stock game files. I'll see if that fixes it though. If SoundConfig is a stock component and it is hinkey, maybe that'll fix it.

Here's the luatrace log file:

That's... weird. I've just tested right now the Steam version of the mod, and it runs without issue. Since you're in the CONUS, your computer is not likely to be set up in some weird language configuration, so that's not it, even though it shouldn't interfere at all. You can try to unsuscribe then suscribe again to redownload everything. Otherwise, in the attached Zip, you should find soundengine.lua. Go to your HomeworldRM directory, and in \Data\, create the required folders and put the file in \Data\soundscripts\

Then, when you start the game, after selecting the mod, type in the command line menu:

overridebigfile

It should make the linked file prioritized to the one in the mod.

And a small news: we just broke the 3,000 subscribers on Steam!

In recognition of this achievement, please welcome the new faction for the mod, against which the Confederation and the Kilrathi will have to join forces if they want to survive:

Yep. It is well-known that Chris Roberts intended it to be the real enemy controlling the Nephilim, to be seen in the last game of the Prophecy trilogy, and this mod will honour his original vision, considered by most to be the equal in genius of the first work of the Star Wars Extended Universe: Star Wars Holiday Special!

Ok so I unsubbed the mod; resubbed. Nada. Uninstalled HW reinstalled. same issue.

I created the directory soundsripts in the data folder dropped the file, tried -overridebigfile in the command line. Still no joy.

Same bug as before:

Unable to set sound root path, missing root.lua in Data:Sound -- FATAL EXIT -- soundmaninit/693:! --stack trace--

OK, so it seems the problem was shifted to another file, and I have no idea why. Anyway, giving you the working file, put it in \Data\Sound\ after making the folder Sound. Use overridebigfile again to use the files I sent.

True...OK update. Put the file in sound. got a new error this time.

... what the hell. You get weird characters appearing everywhere, as if the files were corrupted. Try to unzip the archive in \sound\sfx\

Attachments

With this file, unfBig, you should be able to unpack the entire mod, which is in \HomeworldRM\DATAWORKSHOPMODS\*really huge number*\403171608\WC4FC_Remastered.big

If you unpack it, you should have access to pretty much everything. Then, you can see if the files listed in the error logs are weird or not (if they have the strange characters). Also, if you unpack, you can move all the folders in the \Data\ folder and then use overridebigfile to ignore the mod and use those files instead.
