Possible suggestion box improvements/ideas

I think that a cloaking device should be obtainable, but only upon completion of some very tough missions (which have the side effect of marking you as a traitor to Confed, hehe).

I also think that same should run for being able to buy a capital ship, you should:

(1) Make it so that a shipyard owner owes you a huge favor, so do missions for them
(2) Do a lot of cargo runs to procure the various parts, raw materials, etc.
(3) Find the manpower and the crew, meaning do slave runs then free the slaves thus losing a lot of money
(4) Pay for the construction

The reward could be something similar to the Delphinus ship, or maybe a more or less normal capship (I modeled the Delphinus mainly because I am a big Skies of Arcadia fan)

How about you get a long and arduous mission: Befriend the retros, become one of them, procure them weapons (for a while) to rise in rank, then offer to negotiate on their behalf with the Kilrathi, to obtain just one capship from them, with a cloaking device in it, go to Kilrah, come back with the ship, but divert it to Perry. In exchange you get a Paradigm (or Delphinus, I'm not familiar with it).

yes that place hawk :)

The Delphinus is something I modeled on a whim, it's a "capship" from Skies of Arcadia. The StarRunner model in VS looked similar to it so I altered it accordingly.

About the cloaking device -- I meant obtaining a cloakable SHIP, sorry. Ever seen the weird shape that F117's have, which makes them very hard to fly? I think that this is why Strakhas are so wimpy. MAYBE the player should be able to get a hold of an old Sthrkha, but not a modular cloaking device -- makes game too easy. In order to cloak you sacrifice, well, everything else.

You can't, but if you get the latest upload it's your default ship instead of the tarsus. It's definitely a munckin right now....

The Moonstone Cannon is a powerful energy beam (which is in the SOA game) which is available once every 15 seconds. It turns off when you let go of the fire button. If you let go right after, you gotta wait 15 seconds more, so use it for all it's worth (about 3 seconds of beam). It's about as strong as an anti matter gun and it's a beam so no aiming required.

The Delphinus is about as massive as a Drayman, it's longer and sleeker, and handles about same as a Galaxy, and comes with six long range lasers and three tachyon turrets.

Just a humble suggestion, I'm sorry if its been mentioned before. Would it be possible to make the map viewer a little easier to control, sometimes I have to change the axis a couple of times just to figure where I am when I am in the WCU add-on systems. Thanks

edit: Also....comets?

Minor bug...
The Demon's and Talon's are the only ones I've seen so far that have it.
Their Engine Enhancement's and Reactor's are messed up.
They show them as being:
Engine/Engine_Enhancements
and
Reactor/Light
Reactor/Medium
Reactor/Heavy
While the ones you can purchase are:
Engines/Engine_Enhancements
and
Reactors/Light
Reactors/Medium
Reactors/Heavy
Upgrading is impossible on the Reactors, and if equiped, you must keep the afterburner they come with.

I did some hacking, and discovered that the problem is in the "Units.CSV" file.
(Adding the "s" is a simple matter, around 20 places IIRC.)
To repair the problem in a saved game requires editing the ship files in the serialized_xml\SAVEDGAME folder(s).
IE:
\WCU\.privateer100\serialized_xml\Now\talon.pirate.csv
\WCU\.privateer100\serialized_xml\Now\demon(escort).csv
\WCU\.privateer100\serialized_xml\Now\demon(strike).csv

BTW-I used Wordpad to edit them, without any problems.

A minor bug

-The kilrathi dreadnought, which moves exactly like the Kamekh, ambushed me during Cpt Goodin's 5th mission in Blockade point alpha.

Feeling that this was unfair I decided to be unfair myself and parked myself halfway through the ship in it's landing bay. I planned on sitting there and blasting it out of space. Well all of a sudden I was no longer in the bay, but inside the model, and then back outside the hull having passed through the thickness of the ship. A quick death, that was deserved considering the cheapness of my tactics, soon followed.

Keep up the good work,
Carl

A few bugs related to the latest version:
I went into Kilrathi territory, and landed on a couple bases, a planet, and a carrier.
1) Whenever I purchased a Kilrathi ship, the "for sale" count never changed.
2) There were 2 versions of the "Cloaking Device."
a) One under, "Kilrathi/Prototype/Cloaking Device."
b) One under, "Weapons/Kilrathi Milspec/Cloaking Device."
3) Mounting the 2-a Cloaking device upon ANY ship caused it to be automatically damaged after EVERY flight. The 2-b version was okay.
4) On the Carrier, when I went to upgrade the Gothri, or any ship, there were 2 listings for almost everything.
a) And selling anything off of a Kilrathi ship was irreplacable, at any base.
b) And things like autotracking couldn't be added.
c) Only missiles could be swapped out.

bugs?

relationship with landriech, nephilim, AWACS not shown in player info

LokiVLoki Border Worlds Drydock no visual but can dock, LokiVLoki system background empty...

I've been doing some thinking too, I just want to bring up the idea of creating a more dynamic ambience to the WCU. Although ships and stuff fly around and there are already plenty of actions going on, experience from playing I-War 2 has made think it would be nice to see more dynamic flare to the local garrisons and traders: We'd be seeing the carriers docking, launching patrols and even patroling the system itself. It would also be cool to watch transports dock, but also unload cargo and or tractor it in. But perhaps the tough part of this ambience is the right balance of ship numbers so the processor isn't burdened too much.

Cosidering that the Privateer and RF mission are the only "original" missions available to play in WCU right now I think it would be a good idea to fix the final mission of RF. I'm not sure if this has been done in the remake proper, but the WCU Eden system still lacks the all important grey moon and the jum point to RIkel.

All of that ambience you speak of is in Freelancer.
Battleships, Stations, Cruisers, transports, all docking/undocking/launching escort ships, CSV's picking up scrap, repair ships making repairs, tugs hauling ships, miners mining asteroids, patrols, smugglers, etc.
I've had as many as 80 ships flying around a system without much effect on the frame-rate.
Around 120 ships in a system will slow it down quite a bit, but you hardly notice the difference in the number of ships, between 80 and 120 ships, unless you programmed the mod, as I did.
Heck, 20-30 ships, on-screen, at any given time, is common, even in the unmodded version of Freelancer.
Check out the Screenshots from "Privateer: The Reckoning" and you'll see ships in the backgrounds all over the place.

Impressive... most impressive. Now, if I could just regain enough of my old skill (or enough money) to get through the straight Privateer Remake, I'll jump in and start playing in the larger universe.

I used the model which was given to me -- if you know where the confed texture for it is... please share it? :) I called it a superbase because it looked like a more angular (wc3-ish) version of Kithrath Mang.

I got it, but this was given to me with a kilrahti texture... so I assumed it was a kilrathi base... do you have the oriignal texture?

as far as i know there isn't an original texture, i don't think it ever made it into the actual game engines either. i remember it from the opening of WCIV i think it was, when blair and maniac approached.

if you need a terran texture, i can see what i can do.
