Would Halcyon be on board the Claw at the same time as Gerald? Halcyon was apparently considered good enough that he was left as acting captain despite that his position was CAG.

Actually, I would hazard a guess that it was originally just a necessity "promotion", as you state, and then it worked out well enough that command figured they could spend their time filling other, more urgent, positions first.
 
He was in that position for a long time (several months) because the Tiger's Claw was stuck behind enemy lines and couldn't resupply. He was replaced by Captain Thorn when they returned to Confed space...
 
I know he was in that spot during the Sivar and Firekka escapades (the latter, of course, was meant to be unofficial R&R following the Sivar pursuit - and thus the lack of a captain wasn't important), but what about during the Vega campaign? Didn't he have the spot throughout the entire sequence as depicted in WC? I know there were at least a couple of transport escort missions in that campaign.
 
He was only captain during SM1... not WC1 or SM2. Captain Thorn was around in SM2 (he shows up in Freedom Flight) and for most of WC1.

Guess Tolwyn's personal comment to Halcyon threw me off, then.
"Get your people out of their." seems more like the kind of note you'd send to the captain, as opposed to the CAG.
 
Since Eisen's the only Captain i have flown under be a none PC owner and having played on WC3 & 4 on PS1.I voted for my beloved Captain.

There is such a thing as free time in the military, and a mindless pursuit is sometimes just the thing to unwind after a long day of putting your life on the line for your country, some of which citizens are ungrateful (enter appropriate noun here).

So after the Wing Commander movie Gerald just retained command of the CLAW and when on a penetrating raid behind enemy lines?
 
I dont think this is fair

the Victory is a small little carrier that needs a battlegroup.

I don't know much about the Tarawa, but it don't sound very powerful.

Tiger's Claw, a ship that holds it's own in a capshipvscapship fight.

I'm only ungratful to people who need to make known that he's serving the country, but since this is the internet, everything said is taken with a pinch of salt.
 
He only made it known in as much a reference to the commander's records.

What if the normal battlegroup support was thrown in? I know the Vic had some heavy stuff (cruiser, 2 dest) and the Tarawa had something only a little lighter. Don't know if the TC had anything. Could that balance it out? After all most wargames use a whole battlegroup, not just one ship from what I understand.
 
Tarawa had the Intrepid, a Gilgamesh-class destroyer, and the Kagamisha, a Venture-class corvette, as escorts. The Victory had the Ajax cruiser (Tallahassee class), and the Sheffield and Coventry destroyers (Sheffield class).
 
Just because you're in the military, it doesn't make you William Manchester. Not to mention, you're comparing your own, most likely limited, experience in the military with that of a fictional character.

I really wouldn't be talking. I have the upmost respect for anyone in the Armed Forces, because they have the guts to fight for something. No one, and I mean no one, should criticize a person like that until they've at least been through active duty service. This guy in particular was in the Navy (whichever, I don't know), but being away at sea for that long is some hard-core stuff.

I have limited military experience (Being 16 years old, and a cadet in the US Air Force Auxiliary), and I would like to think that the military 700 years from now is a decent one, and not as shabby as many people make it out to be. So there's nothing wrong with making parallels. After all, if you know your stuff, you's see that a lot of the things in the WC military system are derived from the US Navy, and a few from the Air Force.

Even if those two ships had their little fleets you guys think that the TIGER CLAW can still take them? Or take a fleet on at a time?
 
No doubt about is the Tiger Claw was a full fleet carrier with twice the fighter capacity of either of those ships.

and as for Ijuin's observation about the destroyers in Victory's group. It was the Coventry that was different from the other two. Ajax and Sheffield were as old as the Victory, whereas the Coventry was a new ship with it's own half wing of fighters.
 
ooooo I just remembered something. Jason was the captain of the Coventry for at least the duration of the Behemoth offensive (see: False Colors).
