Jumping (The inter-system sort)

Wedge009

Rogue Leader
I'm part way through replaying WC2, and just realised that we don't have enough missions which require us to jump to another system. The Broadsword was handy at that and the Morningstar jumped once. But we only jump once with the Excalibur, and we only see Wolf Pack jump in in WCP, we don't actually jump ourselves. Does anyone else feel like jumping around more in missions?

I will tell you this...

Blair would've sure kicked more butt had his big 55-gallon drum of whoopass been able to spiderweb throughout the galaxy.

Yeah, jumping during missions was a lot of fun. It added a feeling of independance and broke up the normal routine of going out, hitting nav points, blasting cats and coming home...

Definately one of the more innovative aspects of WC in my opinion.

So I did. But that's just my point, after WC2, you only jump in a couple of missions - if at all.

That's an interesting point about Privateer, the independence and all. Maybe that's why I'm feeling so eager to play it again after WC2, even though I thoroughly hate fighting Kilrathi in asteroids for Taryn's missions.

[Hmm, perhaps I should have put up a poll as to whether people want more jumping missions or not. :)]

This is probably why everyone seems to love Privateer.
Privateer's a great game... but popping out of autopilot as much as 10,000 klicks away from the jump point, is not cool... :(

But it would be too easy if you appeared near the jump point when enemies are present.
If no enemies are present and you have no AB it's annoying though, I agree.

Wedge: Just be friends with the Kilrathi and you won't have to fight them in the asteroid fields. :)

be friends with kilrathi how?

No, I think Mekt meant what he said...
If you kill enough Confed and Militia ships, I think Kilrathi become your friends (as well as Pirates)...

The only guys you can't be friends with are the Retros.

This thread makes me wish I had ever played Privateer.
But noooo, Cirrus Logic had to make a video chipset that interfered with the Sound Blaster Pro so sound didn't work in a lot of games, and although in most of those cases I could make it work, with Privateer I couldn't. The sound either worked or not, completely random. 99% of the time it didn't work so it stunk!
And so I went and sold my copy!
&$^%*#)$(&$(#(&%#*(@ (obscenities sensored)
"The children! Will somebody please think of the children!"

Sometimes I could get Pirates to be my buddies, but not cats. I was able to butter them up enough so that they stop shooting me, tho (even then, they STILL dis you.) :p

And on the origional topic, yeah, I want more jumping dammit!

You can be friend of all the factions but not the retros, if you are friend of Pirates and Kilrathis you are enemy of Mil,Confed.
There is a lot of combinations.

BTW I liked a lot the jumping sequence of Priv, i tlooks like a wormhole !

Damn right, I meant what I said. You can befriend the Kilrathi not only by killing Confed/Miltita but also by just flattering them over comm and begging for your miserable life.

Luckily no one seems to want to be friends with the Retros. :)

Heh, if you read the topic, I was referring to inter-system jumping. ;)

Been there, done that. 'Mission' enemies can't be commed into being friendly. :(

Escorting one of your carrier's escorts, or even just on your own, to clear out both sides of a jump point could make some interesting scenarios. The TCS William Tell engages a capship outer-system in WC2, I think it would have been nice to do this with the Ajax, Sheffield, or Coventry.
