In the Air Force, pilots fly less than one would assume. Newbies rarely get the chance when they cycle into the big-hittin' squadrons (due to their inexperience; simulators are the call of the day) and the older guys, as Paladin once said, have trouble "convincing the medics they're still 25!" Boy, does eyesight become an issue!
No, seriously! It's mainly captains and majors who get to do all the flying around. Most pilots only fly when they have to get their certs. Pretty cruddy, eh?
