behemoth

Nonono... a Behemoth ain't gonna get anywhere without escorts, so all those other ships are needed. It's not really a ship-killing weapon. And there was no reason to pull out a Behemoth during either Nephilem invasion... we weren't interested in destroying planets, but rather saving them :).

Plus, we didn't exactly have a choice during the invasion -- Midway was the ship that was caught behind enemy lines, not Behemoth.

I don't think confed SHOULD have behemoths anymore, frankly if they are so against bioweapons then how do they explain the behemoth as being any better morally? both are weapons of mass destruction that will kill innocent civilians in the process.... unless of course there is nothing on a planet but a military base etc.

Fear factor my friend, fear runs through the heart of everyone. But the bugs dont seem to 'have' innocent 'civilians' so why the hell not blow em to smitherenes? Maestro talks about lobbing a few nukes at em, so i take it they must have tons of those

there are alot of missions when escorting the behemoth that there aren't any hostiles, so you can
A:blow it up
B:Enjoy the ugly view
C:Escort it

That's true, however they were going to use it on populated planets.... especially kilrah. was confed so desperate that they would abandon their morals in order to win the war? given the chance and being so desperate would they have considered using bioweapons to erradicate kilrah? do you think that using the behemoth on kilrah would have been a nececcary evil or was confed wrong to ever consider using it?

LOAF, are you saying that the Behemoth could be used against a Capship ala Death Star II? This information is from...?

The Behemoth can destroy anything at the lancing point of its cannon... *even* a planet, not *just* a planet. It'd be a pain to aim, and then to recharge, but it could destroy a capship.

Besides, we were going to destroy Kilrah because, well, it was us or them.

Nature cannot breed a species that does not want to survive...

What about the Quakers? To them, sex was a cardinal sin, so they couldn't procreate and they were extrememly passive and didn't fight.

And how many Quakers do you know? And Calvinians?

They don't consider it a cardinal sin, not in wedlock. But they don't like it...so, they only do it when necessary. Which explains why they're a very small religion.

Every religious group...every social group to boot...that considers sex a sin, will die out. Because, sex is necessary for procreation, and therefore, you must have sex.

That's very, very fortunate.

The Behemoth has a limited use...while it could destroy capital ships, it couldn't do it easily, and by the time the main cannon was primed for firing, the bombers would already be there...

The Behemoth's only other use would be to destroy tectoniclly (tectonically? techonicly?...aw, hell) unstable planets. It couldn't be used against, say, Earth (well, it could, but it would probably just crack the crust and pierce the mantle).

Yeah, we're going back to the Death Star again. Would it use up the same energy to take out an installation or capshit as a planet? Is the power of the weapon variable?

If the weapon only has a fixed output then the amount of energy left over when destroying a ship or base would make the thing awful dangerous to be around when you fire it (conservation of energy and all that).

I doubt it. It probably has a variable amount of energy used in firing the big gun.

You know, 500 million gigawatts really can't be that much...

I'd hope so:D

Still the power taken to take out a planet and the amount to take out a ship would massively different (even a 20+km ship).

I remember some spec on the Death Star that said it could fire on planet once every hour and on ship once a minute (or so). IMHO this would not represent just the power differences, probably most of that minute would be targetting.

Well, the ship is electric. The shot, though, that sucker is nuclear. (Little BTTF movie throwback, couldn't resist.) :)
