Is Sweden also participating?

No. The only ones who can enter this contest must have a valid passport from Afghanistan, and membership in Jemen.

(sorry):D

Så tyvärr, Sverige är inte med i tävlingen.

You're right, Dallas says in WCP that the BL are out of the picture or sth like that. Can't remember Maniac saying sth in that direction.

Wait, let me get my Taliban-membership-card (with holographic Osama Bin Laden on the back)

I don't speak Swedish (except Monty Python swedish: "a mööse bit my sïster once"), so... someone please translate.

You've spelt his name. You haven't shown us you can pronounce it yet.

Sssst. :D

hm..

U know what... I have no idea what "mööse" means, could be mouse....

Who cares...

:(

A moose=an American elk. It's some sort of reindeer.

Ya should really see Monty Python and the quest for the holy grail. It features many mööses.:D

Uhm... Yeah..

A moose=an American elk. It's some sort of reindeer.

Yes...I know what a MOOSE is. We go hunting every year so I know what it is.

But the word u mentioned was "mööse", with the special letters in the middle. wasnt sure u where reffering to a moose

Yes I have seen it, far too many years ago.:D

Hrm...Read my comment at the top, besides, it's not so american over here :D

My dictionary defines it as being American. But then again, that thing sucks. The mööse is from the opening credits from MP's QFTHG. But we'd better get back to Wc, or they'll close this thread...

Maniac did mention it once towards the newbies, I think. But he halted and said: "But that's still classified", I think. (please don't shoot me if I'm wrong)

Maniac, during one flight briefing, makes a comment that 'We might as well dig up Tolwyn' or something to that effect. Its early on, but unfortunately, I can't remember the context. I don't think he mentions the Black Lance in that comment, although I could be wrong.

AFAIK, Commodore is typically used as an acting rank to denote which Captain in a squadron is in command. Of course, my familiarity with the term is largely from the game Star Fleet Battles. Some of the people involved with the game are real world military consultants, and I think a lot of this real world experience is found in the military structure of the in-game Federation.

Of course, countering that is the fact that Wing Commander ranks don't necessarily have to be based on real world counterparts.

Well, you've got to expect some drift in seven centuries. :) WC officer and flag ranks are pretty close to modern US ranks, though many of the enlisted ranks are new.

Best, Raptor

Commodore is not the new way of saying rear admiral (lower half) it is the British equivilant of that rank.

We've had commodores at times in the US -- I believe it's generally a rank that's only assigned during wartime... to people who need to be promoted above captain, but who are too valuable to take off the front lines.

In otherwords, sorta like "specialist" is in the Army to "Corporal". They both have the same job, except one is superior to the other. Is that what you mean?

Eg. Commadore is above captain, but has the same job or comparable jobs, as compared to an Admiral of some kind.

Commodore is originally a position in the Naval forces.

While unoficial it signified the a Post Captain in charge of a fleet division or a squadron.

The USN in it's early stages adopted Commodore as a rank to signify a post above captain(Most likely since they just didn't have a fleet big enough to have an admiral.)

The rank was abolished in 1899(after the USN started promoting a bunch of people to admiral during the civil war, starting with David Farragut), with a brief reinstatement during the second world war for use with destroyer squadon skippers.(Though there were more Rear Admirals then anyway, so it didn't really matter.)

What?!

But all of this still doesn't make any sense to me! If you read the "Victory Streak" or the Armada Guide "Something of war or something sometting..." it's clear that Commodore is the flag rank above Captain....
But what I don't get is why is Blair a commodore or admiral or whatever?! You don't get promoted from Colonel to commodore! That's a naval rank! Blair should be a general of some kind shouldn't he?

After WC4, while a flight instructor at the Academy, Blair was asked by Taggart, then chairman of the Senate’s Armed Forces Committee, to become the chief military liaison for the so-called megacarrier program that would produce the Midway. Blair agreed, and to facilitate that role, he transferred his commission to the Navy and was promoted to Commodore.

Blair gets promoted to Brigadier General at the end of the WC4 novel which is the equivalent (if I may say so) of "Commodore" in the space force. Like Nemesis pointed out, he switched to Navy for the Midway project.
