2 Questions...

Saturnyne

Vice Admiral
Question 1.
Do you think it's possible that there are "nephilim" aliens who know english because those particular aliens are captured terran pilots being remade into them?

Question 2.
In each game, which ships are your least favorite to fly in? I'll go first:

WC1
I only have the SNES version, but I don't really like Scimitars. Not manueverable enough for me.

WC2
I hate any and all bombers.

WC3
Kill me if I have to fly in a Longbow.

WC4
I don't like Banshees...

WCP
I HATE Shrikes! Too slow, and no gun power.

I also am not too crazy about Vampires in WCP... I like Panthers.

1. No. Presumably, they have either learnt the language from prisoners, or use their computers to translate Buggish into English.

Thou shalt not bitch and dis the Scimitar. Tis a good fighter that can kick som arse. Thou wouldn't know yer great fighter if it jumped into yer pants.:)

WC1: Definetly the Hornet, but even more the Dralthi. Did any of OSI's playtesters actually try to take out a Hhriss or a Rapier in one of those?

WC2: Epee, and Sabre. Sabre was a pretty good fighter, but didn't have the armor or shields to go against capships, which was often your mission.

WC3: Definetlly the Cat. I never use it if I don't have to, since the Arrow and T-bolt can take care of any mission the Cat can, and do it much better.

WC4: Vindicator, while on paper it looks at least as good as a T-bolt, the guns where too weak and I never liked it as much as the T-bolt.

Prophecy: The Devastator, talk about a piece of crap. It's got a nice missile lodaut, but it's guns sucked big time. And the Panther isn't far behind, it's missiles are nice, but the Ion cannons suck.

SO: I liked all of the fighters, but I guess I didn't like the Black Vampire as much as the previous version. The guns didn't feel right, and it was to nible. Though there are few missions where I'd rather fly the Vamp than the Panther.

In SO, the Vamp's guns are too weak, and they run out of power too quickly. Give me a panther any day of the week. And if I ever have to fly a Scimitar, I'd have to ask my commanding officer what I did to deserve such a horrible fate. :p

C'mon, I hate these which fighter is the best/worst topics.

And Q, the bug in the wormhole gate tower seemed to pronounce Blair's name well enough. Though that was only one word, I guess.

Wedge, what language is 'Darth Vader' in? Sith, or something? Well, whatever it is, I don't know the language, yet I have no trouble pronouncing it whatsoever :). Also, I don't know Russian, yet I can say 'Vladimir Putin'. I don't know Spanish, yet I can say 'Pinochet'. I don't know Mandarin, yet I can pronounce 'Jiang Zhemin'... et cetera, et cetera. Get my drift? :)

Uh, what I meant was that there was no need for the bugs to use a translator computer to communicate with us. I think your last post just reinforces that idea.

Anyway, "I think I liked them better when I didn't understand them." :)

Hey, Q, we found us another Scim lover!
I don't know why people hate the Scimitar...I've flown some of my best missions in that ship.

Although Dralthi Mk. 2s are basically faster Scims without ejection systems, it's my least fav. WC1(SM2) ship.

Epees make me less than comfortable when taking on fellow Human ships, but no WC2 ship makes me dislike it. The only exception is the Bloodfang, but only because you can't fly it.:(

Longbows may be pigs, but those pigs have claws! I've sat around waiting for Paktahns to gun me down with all those plasmas while a few shots from my bird will gun down those bombers. Forget those 16 missile hardpoints. Forget those 4 torpedo hardpoints. Forget about that particle turret. Those guns are enough that a Longbow with that alone in WC3 was enough to bash through even the strongest Kilrathi defenses so long as you don't let yourself falter at the controls.

The ship I liked least in 3 is the 'cat. Mediocre in every way, unreliable shields. It's fine for a few Vaktoths or several lighter ships. I'd feel safer taking on corvettes with an Arrow than with the Hellcat. Taking on Paktahns? Not the most comfortable senario. Same deal in 4, if the guns were closer together, and more towards the center of mass, the Hellcat wouldn't be my least favorite ship in WC4. Give me a Banshee or even a Bearcat. Only thing with the Bearcat is gun placement, the autotrack doesn't compensate for puting tachyons on the extreme ends of those broad wings!

Shrikes are fine as long as you can count on an escort. In other words, you're a stone throw away from being a sitting duck. Vampire's are the ship to be in, while Panthers and Devastators tie for a close second.

Has anyone ever posted saying that they think the Hellcat is God's gift to pilots? I mean if people will stick up for Scimitars & Epees...

Excellent DH, we can always use one more ;).

Penguin: People only stick up for ships worth sticking up for. And the Hellcat is not one of those.

Personally, I feel a tad uncomfortable when I get into the Devastator. It's a nice ship, well armed and all, but it's not a dogfighter, and unfortunately your wingmen are of no use either (why, oh why, was there no 'broadcast to escort wing' option? If you could tell those Vampires to help you out...). I still remember the old days of Broadswords. Now those were real ships... ye could fly without escort and still come back with nary a scratch. Aye, they built them to last in those days. We dinna have afterburners or any of those new-spangled plasma gadgets, and to get to the launch bay we had to walk fifteen miles barefoot in the snow, but we sure put the fear of God into the Kilrathi... <dozes off mumbling to himself>

Wedge: Perhaps you failed to notice the first half of my original post on the subject :). As I recall, the computer translation was part of an or statement. And besides, the whole point of my post was merely to refute the impossibly dumb idea of aliens remaking humans into their own kind (what's next, people? Is somebody going to bring up Blair for the two million and fifteeth time, how he's been assimilated by the Bugs but will one day return? I'll rip out your guts, I promise...).

wc1: hornet...too light don't like only one gun option either...
wc2: haven't played...
wc3: i used to hate the cat, but after a while of it being more or less the only option in wc4 i got used to it...plus it does help to be used to it to smack hobbes around some bit...so overall i still hate the cat :) - although i hate those rock ships as well when u're trying to blow 'em up coz they must have a helluva lot of armour or something coz it takes ages to blow 'em up
wc4: banshee and bearcat - i hated only having lasers even if there were four, but i hate the gun placement...similar to that of the tachyon's on an excalibur which is too wide out...but i liked that other gun...whatever it was coz that was cool...and the bearcat's gun placements sucked
wcp: shrike - not enuff speed, not enuff guns on it either and when u ran outa torps that was it...although i hate the devastator for not being able to burn long enuff - don't ANYONE diss the piranah...the most funnest thing to run the gauntlet in and trying to whack out kilrathi corvettes in 'em...
wcso: i didn't really mind any of them coz the guns seemed to work fine with me although i REALLY liked the Wasp in wcso...beatiful guns...empty it out in one round to take out a full ship...nice...except for having to wait for it to recharge - i'm glad it take as long as it did in wcp

Yeah... or that squishy sound of a dying Manta...

I think you just did.:)

I don't see the Nephilium as being mutated humans. Maybe Origin?EA decided to steal the Alien idea of using humans as breeding grounds, but I don't think that has been shown. I figure they learned the language by capturing pilots and transmissions. They mostly seemed to destroy everything in their initial attack in the Kilrah system, but they may have landed troops and taken computer records, etc.

WC1 Hornet. I'm with Q in that I liked the Scim, but I also liked the Dralthi.

WC2 Ferret. No missles, but could take a pounding. Liked the longer range guns, on the Epee.

Privateer. Tarsus

WCAcademy. That Kilrathi fighter whose name eludes me.

WCArmada. Phantom

WC3 Hellcat.

WC4 Bearcat. The gun placement really sucked.

WCP Pirhana.

WCSO Shrike. Though I didn't like the Panther's new gun layout very much.

Priv II Shaman

Hmmm

All the ships are fine including the hellcat. I actually do most of wc3 with the hellcat. Usally. When drunk.

God the pancakes in wc1 so2 sucked. The broadsword was bad as well. Call me bad but that cap ships in the retrive message mission in wc2 was a bitch to kill and how come they could use that plasma weapon so well.

Ouch. Thanks for insulting me. Remind me never to pass my theories onto anyone next time, Q.

Uh, first, there's no Plasma weapons in WC2. You most likelly saw the antimatter guns.

Second, just because you suck at the game doesn't mean the 'Sword is a bad ship.:) The 'Sword will always bring you home if you know how to fly.

All this whinging over which is the worst. Jeez everytime I get stuck in a Hellcat I just think of the retard in the Dralthi I & IV, Darket, Ray, Remora or singular Stingrays/Skates. I automatically feel better :) (a bit anyway...)
