    LOAF Fixes a Macintosh

It's a mirror drive door mode - Dual G4 1GHz with 2GB RAM and an "altered" Geforce 5200 ripped from a PC too - quite a way away from Big Bertha :) If I remember last time I had classic mode installed on 10.4 it would either run in a window, or you could reboot into 9.2.2 proper. When the dust...

    LOAF Fixes a Macintosh

Anyone know if SWC will run in Mac Classic mode on OS10.4? My trusty old G4 has 10.5 on at the moment, but I'd been thinking about going back to 10.4 for speed and to enable booting into the classic 9.2.2 environment. Would give me all the more reason to do it if SWC would run there. Anyone...

    Rate Your Geekness

Uh-oh over 80% I think I'm gonna see if my warranty is still valid and trade myself in for someone else. :D

    Original Privateer

If you're actually in the DOS dosbox, rather than the code box running in the Dosbox Status window then ALT-ENTER should fullscreen it. If that doesn't work look in your dosbox.conf and change the line "fullscreen=false" to "fullscreen=true" and dosbox will start in fullscreen when you run it.

    3dfx Sli?

Shades, I doubt you'd be too impressed with the 6000. It can do wonderful things with FSAA and motion blur effects, but 3DFX didn't include a transform and lighting engine, something that so many games use today. These means that even a bog-standard geforce2mx will outperform the Voodoo5 6000 on...

    Time for a New Joystick

Hi Chris. I'm sure the Freedom is better than the Wingman Force3D I've had, but in the UK they retail at £35-40 which is about $60-70. At that price it makes it a pricey joystick when the old stock X45s are being sold off around the same price. Besides I'd forget to change the batteries. :)

Okay, okay I'm buying one already! (Or will be in the next couple o' weeks) :D

    3dfx Sli?

SLI was most used on the Voodoo2. The Voodoo2 on it's own could only support 800x600 fully accelerated. With SLI you can run in 1024x768. As far as I know SLI relies on identical cards, which is why NVidia saved it after buying out 3DFX until PCI-E came out. It can't work between an AGP card...

    Time for a New Joystick

Thanks for the fresh input guys. Chris, The Logitech Freedom is probably top of my cheap choices new, but this is the 2nd Logitech Force3D I've had pack up and I'm not convinced I want to go down the Logitech route again. I was never totally happy with the feel of the Logitech anyway. It...

    Time for a New Joystick

Hey, has anyone used the older X45? I'm getting the impression that these metal Saitek jobs are pretty indestructible and I can get an X45 very cheaply off ebay. Would save me a lot of cash over the X52. BTW anyone tried using the X52 with Privateer2? I'm serious here, this could seriously...

    Time for a New Joystick

I'm definitely being swayed towards the X52. For the moment I've brought my old and battered Thrustmaster FCS Mark II out of retirement. I'd given up on it years ago when it started to act up, but the rest seems to have done it good. Working fine for now, so I can breath a sigh of relief for the...

    Time for a New Joystick

The pricing does suck. I looked at buing from the US and having it shipped but it cost the difference to ship. (Big heavy joystick I suppose!) Have you used it to play Armada and Academy in DosBox? Calibration in older games seems to be much more finickity and it'd almost be worth it if it...

    Time for a New Joystick

Hi Striker. It's times like this I get so angry about the price difference in IT equipment. The X52 over here is about £80 delivered. That's near $150!! Even the basic Cyborg EVO is £35 so nearer $65!. It's unbelieveable that in these days of the so called Global Village IT kit in America is...

    Time for a New Joystick

The Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar is out as it's too much. The Saitek HOTAS is just about affordable, but costs nearer $140 over here in the UK. I can probably get one of e-bay a bit cheaper though. I'm not that bothered about force-feedback. Having had it, I'm not impressed. Just something else...

    Time for a New Joystick

Well, my Logitech Wingman Force3D has finally given up the ghost. Or rather it's fighting too strongly! The force feedback motors have managed to bugger themselves up and the joystick now locks in the top left corner and refuses to calibrate. All the Logitech tools and tips have done no good...

    Help, Latin Readers!

This is mostly from my schoolboy learning, but I checked a couple of dictionaries too. Some are just plain junk, and the Latin is atrocious. Any with a ? after I just can't make head nor tail of, but I've tried to put suggestions where I can. If anyone can correct any please do. :D 1) Hostis...

    Wing Commander Problem

SWC for 3DO plays okay in FreeDo with the occasional bit of black-squares popping up on the cut-scenes (Which are amazing for the time!) and the odd ship just disappearing from under your target reticule. Very annoying when that happens. If you can get hold of it (and good luck!) SWC for the...

    TRex vision

Bats have excellent vision which is particularly adapted for low level lighting. Which is why if you get a bat in the house and switch the lights on they start making noises across the whole spectrum of their sonar, some of which you can hear. They switch to almost total sonar while their eyes...

Crazy Things You Did While Playing WC

I popped down to the shops once while my 2x CD-Rom was loading a WC3 mission. ( It was less than a minute's walk and I was only on a late night cigarette run. :) ) Got back just as the arrow left the hanger. Perfect. :D

    Chris Roberts

My 2 cents worth: I think a lot of the confusion/resentment to the film comes from the VERY different visual style to the "filmed" WC games. WC3 and 4 both had a very distinctive style to them that wasn't particularly reflected in the film. WCP just had kinda plasticky sets, especially the...
