Inverting the mouse in WC games that you play within DOSBox

Today, I happened to stumble upon a DOSBox thread which I thought might help some Wing Commander players. As we know, in most WC games, the mouse is not inverted, but in WC Privateer, its Y axis is inverted - this can be a problem when, say, you've just played WC1 and you have to get used to...

    Loaf's Carrier List

Is it this one? http://www.hamtwoslices.net/loaf/fleetcarriers.html EDIT : Also, the lost newshipslist.doc file is here, if anybody cares : https://www.wcnews.com/loaf/wcreference/newshipslist.doc

    Privateer/RF reputation

It's not, you got them in the right order. I used that trick a lot when I was in trouble, although if you've been too hostile towards a faction, they'll have plenty of time to blow you up before you manage to make them friendly. Paradigms and Kamekhs take longer to reply to comm messages, as...

    Privateer/RF reputation

Thanks! Theoretically, someone with a lot of patience and a lot of free time could pull this off in less than two weeks, since you can destroy around 100 Retro ships per hour if you're fast enough. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I won't try it again. I'm still seeing white talons flying in front of...

    Privateer/RF reputation

Being friendly with the Kilrathi does make the last two Taryn Cross missions much easier, but other than that, yeah; the fact that there aren't many random Kilrathi encounters means that having cat allies isn't as helpful as one might think. Unless you fly a Tarsus, because then you need all the...

    Privateer/RF reputation

Thanks! Unfortunately, yes. That's why the only way to align with the Retros is to attack them a lot. Once you've destroyed 6528 Retro ships, you reach the 16-bit negative maximum, -32768. And once you destroy one more ship, this causes an integer overflow and sets your reputation with them...

    Privateer/RF reputation

I've been looking for something like this for a long time and never managed to find it, so I made it myself.:p So, for those interested, here's what happens to your reputation points for each faction every time you destroy a ship. You start with 0 reputation points with the Merchants, Hunters...

A little bug in Flight of the Arrow : If Bradshaw tells Freyers that some bombers got away *after* all of the AM missiles have been destroyed, Freyers tells Bradshaw to go back to the Firekka... And he doesn't give you landing clearance when you get there. :p

So, what do you really need to win?

I've done some more testing regarding the endings, and here are the results... there is indeed a bug :

So, what do you really need to win?

Hmm. If this is true, then there may be a bug that prevents the player from getting the winning ending. Like Mancubus, I got the "we are in no shape to counterattack" ending, and I wondered why, since my playthrough was really pretty good. So I restarted the game, and began another playthrough...

    Episode 5 - Missions/Tactics *SPOILERS*

I thought this was true when I first met the Vatari, but actually your guns do beat their shield regeneration. Remember to only start shooting them when your power bar is full, aim well, and you should be able to destroy the regular Vatari with guns. Fireblade, however, is another story, I've...

    Problems? Post them here...

Thanks! I've replayed the mission where you escort the Arrows (the Exeter mission) several times, thinking it might have something to do with the bug, but the bomber mission still keeps crashing, and I'm always alone in my Arrow. I've yet to see the other three Arrow pilots show up. :p EDIT ...

    Problems? Post them here...

I'm playing through the Ep.5 losing path... I'm stuck at the mission where you have to use the 4 Arrows against the bombers. Before the mission, Jean's report tells me I have -1 Arrows. When I launch, there are no other Arrows around, just a bunch of Hornets. When I get to the first Nav point...

    Saga Explosions

Then you can just stay very close to the capship when it explodes and watch your own ship blow up. No? Oh well. :p

    Saga Explosions

I kind of like the shockwaves. It made the explosions genuinely dangerous. In other Wing Commander games, you can destroy any ship at point-blank range and get away with it (with the possible exception of the Vesuvius if you choose to destroy it with missiles instead of using the Flash-Pak).

    Standoff Chapter Four Now Available

Because the AI also uses afterburners a lot more often. :p Also, because Vision games tend to have *big* battles, some ships will be very far from one another. Some enemies may try to trick you into fighting them away from the main battle, in fact. EDIT : And yes, in the most epic battles, you...

    Standoff Chapter Four Now Available

Yes. First, torpedo the Targu II that's right in front of you at the first nav point. Next, make sure your wingmen stay on your wing for now, otherwise they'll get hurt needlessly. Then focus on shooting down fighters as quickly as you can. When you reach the second Nav point, torpedo the Targu...

    WC4 question

Huh. I sometimes have similar problems with some of the Bearcats in the last Peleus mission - they hit me but I can't hit them, and I can even autopilot past them. Same thing with the turret mines - they sometimes turn invincible for no apparent reason. Out of curiosity, which language...

    WC4 question

Well, the Bearcat does look like a pancake. In terms of efficiency, however, it's probably my favorite WC4 fighter. Nearly useless in the hands of a newbie pilot, and Flying Death once you know how to fly it. I use the Bearcat whenever I can. Some tips : First, deactivate the repair system...
