The long lost secret of Corvettes...

Personally, I prefer smaller, faster fighters... but I do think that a light fighter could take a bomber or a heavy fighter like the Thunderbolt any day of the week, if flown by a skilled enough pilot.

Quarto and Earthworm: Why does the UBW have such good ships? Well after forcing you to fly ALL those missions in the OH so annoying Hellcat, NOT allowing you to fly Arrows, Thuds or Excals, LEAVING the Dragon and Bearcat to the very end, I think it's the least they could do.

Penguin: Oh, I didn't mind not getting the Dragon, since I never liked it anyway (too powerful). But it would have indeed been nice to get a bit more flight time in the Bearcat.

Earthworm: Well, there you have it then

. It would have been perfectly acceptable for the three ships to appear in the book on one or two occasions.

Uh, you mean that the Dragon being too 'powerful' made it boring? And what do you mean by more flight time in a Bearcat. I don't think we even got any flight time.

Wedge009: To fly the Bearcat agree with Hawk and go to Speradon. Once there you have to pick one of the three alternatives. I can't remember which, but I do know it wasn't the ones where you raid the carrier or the weapons depot. It's the other one which I don't quite recall. Then a bit later you help some Bearcat pilots defect. Success in any of these should make the Bearcat available in the select ship screen.

Yeah, that's basicly what he means. And I can't help but to agree. I fly it when I can, but it doesn't require a lot of the skill you need for most other fighters.

What Penguin said. Just chosse the Steal fighters mission while in Speradon. You'll have to leach some Bercats, and than a BW ship will show up and pick them up. IIRC, you get only one mission in the Bearcat before the Dragon shows up, so it's usually overlooked by most people. For me it's like a heavier version of the Banshee with more speed and agility.

Blast, I can't believe I missed that. Having to borrow the game and all, I had to rush through that, and must have missed it, as you said. Still would have been nice to feel how it handled during flight.

Personnaly, I always chose my fighters depending on the mission. For example: Patrol i'd take medium to heavy fighter, for an escort i'd take a medium. I hate bombers, even in Freespace 2 i freak when i have to use Bombers, In one mission when i have to destroy a bunch of Shivan Corvettes, cruisers and a Ravana Class Destroyer i take something like a Hercules Mk2 or a Perseus and start blasting my burners and let loose the dogs of war with my primaries and secondaries. I've even got a Hecate kill with that tactic....
Bombers just suck, by the time your torps lock and your close enough that the turrets don't shoot down you warheads you're already half-dead.

If I had the option to fly a Bearcat, I'd fly a Banshee. I've shot down too many Bearcats to respect them.

But you can shot down practicly any fighter. If so you wouldn't respect the Hellcat (though I doubt anyone ever respected it

), Longbow, Banshee, Avenger, Vindicator, Dragon, Arrow, T-bolt... The Bearcat is really similar to the Banshee, with slightly better guns. You should definetly try it out the next time you play WC4.

No, I respect the Vindicator! It's just that Bearcats are so numerous and so easy to kill that it's hard to want to fly them. I hate the Banshee as it is...

In WC4, there aren't really any ships I prefer... just no Hellcats! PLEASE, no Hellcats!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, with all the advanced models, makes you wonder why you still had to fly the Hellcat in WC4 era.

You had to fly the 'cat because peace time fleet, especially after a 35 year war has a lot of budget cuts.

Therefore you don't get to fly the newer T-bolts or Excals.

Well, when you think about it, Hellcats really aren't worse than anything else... one missile will kill a T-bolt as easily as a Hellcat.

Saturnyne, but you'll have a higer chance of killing the enemy in the T-bolt before he fires that missile.

The 'cat, just like any ship designed for multiple roles, isn't that great in any of the roles. It can't compete against the Arrow as an interceptor, it cant go against the T-bolt as a heavy strike fighter. It's not really bad, but there's always something better.

That's what bothers me about mid-range ships. They're only general-purpose, not suited to anything in particular. Then again, given the objectives of kill everything and anything, that might not be a bad thing.

The one ship that has won my heart is the Dragon... not so much for it's absolute and sheer power (Though I am impatient and like to shoot down my enemies quickly), but more because it has infinite afterburners, which I need BADLY.

Also, Seether's a dolt when it comes to flying.

One more thing: What does SWACS mean? Southern Wankers And C$#% Suckers?

Saturnye: "One more thing: What does SWACS mean? Southern Wankers And C$#% Suckers?" Very eloquent [sarcasm]. Actually SWACS is a variation of AWACS and means Space Warning and Control System.
