Secret Ops: Powergaming?

The Cerberus is not 777m long.

About WCP vs SO guns, I don't really care what I have, I do the best I can, but I actually prefer more punch, slower refire guns, cos that way I can take out a fighter reasonably quickly. (Plasma gun is great for this) But I agree, the Dust Cannon would be a great gun if it didn't chew up energy so fast. (I guess that's the challenge)

And I don't mind the lack of caphip explosions, but the 'Virus' storyline doesn't wholly take care of that fact since Confed/Kilrathi capships/installations lack explosions too.

Remember the Fralthi II at the beginning of Prophecy? That might look better for a destroyed capship. Admittedly that particular ship was destroyed by a plasma wave and not internal engine explosion.

Yeah, the capships could have used better explosions... there's that mission where you rush to save the... Porter was it? Two ships, and they both die... it's anti-climactic to see explosions erupt from the ships, but the hull remains intact.

The dust cannon is the best gun in SO, maybe to good. Hit everything you fire, and any ship is toast (fighters offcourse)

According to the WCP Gold manual she is and Loaf did confirm that in another thread.
And the lack of big explosions is not such a big problem for me. Sure it would have been nice to see but the problem is: If you take out a ship's engine exhaust or the bridge why should the entire ships go kaboom in one fiery explosion? I would have liked it if they made on the one hand regular torpedo attacks against the hull (like we were used to do in WC2-WC4) and thus destroy the ship (maybe in a big explosion or the ship breaks apart) and on the other hand missions where you have to disable a Capship by destroying its engine and bridge.
And of course you give the best you can but with the SOPS weapons it is easier :).

Ship components is one of those issues where you just can't win -- circa WCIV, everybody was bitching about a *lack* of components (compared to the X-Wing series)... now compoments are bad again. (I once interviewed Andy Hollis, who claimed that one of the biggest mistake a design team can make is listening to what people say they want -- because they aren't thinking of what makes the best game possible).

(And yeah, the Cerberus is 777 meters long... which is some kind of religious joke... Cerberus... 777... hah-hah...)

Yes, but they could have combined it like in X-Wing and Starlancer. You can shoot off some components and you can attack the hull directly.
But I can imagine that if you start to listen to people you will never get finished.

P.S.: It is a rather weak joke, do you really think it was made deliberately?

Gah, it was the joke that made me think the 777m was incorrect. I only have the original WCP, I got the stats from the SO fiction.

As for components, I say it's a good idea.

Hmm, maybe you're joking, but I don't think the plasma gun extended that far in front of the launcher, did it?

A new question on SOPS: I just read through the SOPS fiction again and for the first time I realized that "Zero" is referred to as Major Terrence O'Hearn whereas the WCP gold manual lists him as 1st Lieutenant. I know this is a canon question but as it is SOPS specific I posted it here.
Which one is correct? I think the manual because this SOPS fiction is the only one mentioning him as Major.

But the manual states that when he gets his orders to get to Cerberus (2681.65) he is still a 1st Lieutenant. I cannot believe that he is promoted from 1st Lieutenant to Major in a couple of days without doing anything. Especially because he complains in one of the SOPS E-mails that he got no promotion. I think they just messed it up and copied Spyder's rank to his name.

Wasn't it something to do with working in CIS, and the rank changes being temporary or something like that?
