The online mags and game sites appreciate the click-bait I'm sure. He'll have his 1 - 2 weeks of fame till the next thing. The LOAF insults are irking enough but you don't pay attention to all the haters more then necessary. In my honest belief if DS doesn't like you you're probably doing something right. It's like a right of passage.
In fact I think I found the real cause of his anger towards Chris Roberts. A link from his own sight featuring an editorial from CGW with a previous believed comeback mentions a popular sci-fi game. It can be found elsewhere but why not tax his servers?
To quote, next to the last paragraph under
A Simple Plan:
"People were saying to me, why don't you strip it down and make it an action game? Why don't you make it more like WING COMMANDER." Ouch.
Polygon even did a piece regarding him and Line of Defense:

When you declare a target of hate for a narcissistic personality it's like declaring war. A war in their own mind.
Apparently, DS and Origin Studios are no strangers. Eric Peterson went on record at RSI:
Look, I am no longer at CIG, but I recall when Chris and I were working at Origin, Derek Smart sent several negative emails accusing us of stealing his ideas etc, the guy is just not worth the time to read.
He is just trying to get attention - something none of us should ever give him.
IMHO, I think CIG did the right thing here, that guy is just not worth the trouble.
WM
Ortwin did right refunding him his Kickstarter pledge and voiding his rights to the game, toxic as he was. Most of his tom-foolery began on the Goons' Something Awful forums. Reddit, Twitter, Steam, etc. users have, for the most part, said exactly the same. Total PR stunt. You can hear his contempt for gamers, the industry, and crowd-funding in general here:

and his new vaporware (a word he seems to have gained a fondness for):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/266620/ The comments section is priceless. Ironically, this whole spiel of his may generate the exact opposite effect. Already there are many backers who've pledged in protest of his shenanigans as kindly pointed out above.
Taking Wingman's advice, that is the last time I personally will taint these forums with his name.
Looking forward to August! The Roberts brothers are on a roll with Erin now taking a more commanding role after the departures of producers Alex Mayberry and Travis Day.
