Privateer 3??

i know of all the rumors that this thing was killed, and a recent venture through the google search engine showed nothing, but as i was looking around on some software stores, seeing if any had privateer in stock, http://www.cdmag.com/cgi-bin/online...tml&catalog=web_catalog.txt&class=ALL&code=SM showed in the search results that a "privateer 3 CD book" is available for delivery by october, and that "privateer 3" will be released in 10/02. is there anything behind this?

I think something like that was reported a long time ago. I believe online shops try to post their goods in anticipation of their arrival.

No doubt if Privateer 3 was genuinely being developed by Origin with the intention of release, we'd hear about it soon enough.

Now Let us Pray that it takes place in the "confed side" of the WC Universe

...Can you say "vaporware"?... I knew ya could:rolleyes:

Heh. You speak as though Electronic Arts actually cares about us lowly customers... those who actually pay them for thier games. :p
The truth is that after a while, a software company gets out of touch with the community. With the gamers. It gets out of touch with the reason for it's very existance. Therefore, I predict without much difficulty that you won't get a response. I can honestly say that there just isn't a market for a very entertaining game with solid storyline and challenging gameplay any longer.... not in thier eyes.

Not a space combat game, anyway...:(

Sadly, we are *not* their customers anymore... we were their customers 15 years ago -- but gaming is no longer for hobbyists... it's for the masses. Thus, all games must seemingly appeal to everybody.

When your risking your job on developing a game that doesn't sell 750,000 copies, you can't afford to make a game that doesn't appeal to the LCD.

750,000 is far beyond the sales of the average game so thats no risk :p
I think the problem with the casual gamer is that they don't buy much specialist equipment, and they probably believe (rightly so IMO) that you need a joystick for space combat games. Time was everyone had a joystick, especially back in the early days of WC but that simply isn't the case now :(
People are not going to pay for a joystick when they don't know how much they'll like the game :( Bear in mind though styles change, one really breathtaking space combat game could bring it back into the mainstream (he says and then remembers thats what reveiewers called FS2).

I actually perfered to use my Keyboard when I played WC3, for some reason I liked joystick better in all other games but I prefered my keyboard then

A couple of days ago I bought IWar 2 , and my mind was going : "Please, make it look like Privateer..."
I still haven't touched it because I also bought Operation Flaspoint, which got me hooked. But every time I look at the box...

IWAR2 is pretty beautiful... that's right... but I still prefer Privateer...
By the way, Op Flashpoint is an excellent game...

i think in a way though, that freelancer might be a lot like how a privateer 3 would look like if it ever got produced (still waiting on EA's reply...)

Yeah right, keep on waiting...

Don't you know that EA only does games for the Playstation Generation know ? I bet that it will be very similar to Starlancer.
You know, fast, furious, with tons of time limits and absolutely no envolving story. After all, it must be compatible with the XBOX!!!

in defense of the "playstation generation" (i guess i'm part of it seeing i'm 16), i'd like you to know that some of us can appreciate quality, plot-involving games. some of those games on playstation though... ugh.
