And I don't need a working ingame mesh for the destroyer - I've made FS models, and I all I need is a mesh. If necessary, I'll rebuild the destroyer from scratch - which I might do anyhow, just to add some detail.

That could be tricky, I havent verifyed yet but I suspect all the stuff will be seveal megabytes in size. Darkmages 1st release were fighters and these took up 10 MB. I have also most of those (But LOD'ed) plus capital ships. My mail service doest alow me to upload more than 2 MB. That would require me to upload several 2 MB files in diferent occasions ( I would have to erase the previuos one before sending the next) That will take me forever in a 56k modem. I was hoping to have a low frequented FTP to send it to but if none is going to be provided soon I can send it in chunks witht interval of 1, 2 or 3 days.

About the destroyer mesh...
you cant just build any mesh, the reason I wanted to make an ingame model test it is to see if is usable, theres lots of limitations in using meshes, if your doing one mode from scrach try doing it below 750 polys (more are possible but case sensitive) . I think you already know this, just making sure you know that. :)
If the one I have is usable we can be lazy and not make a new one. (although if you'll build one you can also optimize it )
Dont rinagulate the faces unless you have to ( triangulation increases poly count without the need for it) having quadrangular faces will improve game perfomance. Many model makers actualy dont know that is not required to have it all in triangles. (again just making sure :D )
try using all the texture area for the model, many meshes I used had been textured with maps with lots of area waste. It would be a heck of a job to optimize them all. we can do that later on. The important is to have the entire collection playable the fastest possible.

we are going to have unlited storage on the FTP, so don't wprry about the Space, wend the FTP is up I will make sure tolet oyu know so you can start uploading the suff, BTW i wa thinking of a 30 branshed mission game, with a mission tree simiral to WC1 or WC2 , the time period we can select it later but i was thinking it coud be cool if we are making it between WC4 and WCP, and about the name

how about WING COMMANDER BACK OPS, that way we can use any story we dedided later in any place on he WC universe with out dissoting the real game story.

I was thinking about this becasue the story will be cool is all the events ha append in the game are real but the Confed denide them to keep the Confed reputation and moral hi.

Alrighty, see ya next week. Ideally the FTP account should be set up by then. *crosses fingers*

And for the models, you can push the subobject poly limit up to about 850 without any problems, I believe.

Oh, and on the converted meshes. Just for kicks, I started rebuilding at Ranger class carrier (the one from WC3/4) and so far, it's reasonably close to done as a basic model, and it's got about 1/3rd the poly count of the original WC3 model. (not including turrets) So that's definately worth it, IMO.

I'll wait for the FTP then, if it doesnt happen I'll go for the mail scheme. :)

About the sories... We can replicate the original campaigns, expecept now we can increase the number of ships on screen since now theres fewer PC limitations, specialy in those events were Cut-scenes suggest a vast number of ships being involved (and then only very few apear in the mission) such as Prince trakath worm message mission were it is supose to be an entire task force after the victory (Eisen- "they're comming after us hot and heavy"). We should see more bombers and fighters as well as escorting capital ships on both sides, to give a tense feeling of beeing on the line.
I can remenber more missions (played WC2, WC3 WC4 a looooong time ago) such as the surprise attack on Olympus station (Am I right?) that ends with blair transferred to the concordia, only a couple of mission after the start of Wc2 campaign, etc etc.

I'm also thinking about making entirely new textures for the capships.... the WC3/4 ones are definately showing their age. Some nice 256x256 and 512x512 maps should living things up a little, eh? :D

Anyhow, get yer butt over to HLP and register. I gotta get your access for the internal forum.
