Spaceman
when does it take place? good?explains some
sideplots left in games?just a stoopid thing
with guys shooting each other?

Um it's spelled stupid

And I was stupid enough to think that us brotha's had to stick togetha. :p

It takes place in 2670/2671, so between WC3 and WC4. In that novel some of ex-Confed officers are working for Landreich, and are trying to restore a Kilrathi Bhantkara class carrier so they can use it against a Kilrathi war lord. It also sets you up for what'll happen to Tolwyn in WC4. And yes, it's good.

Some people, let's just call them DH and Quarto, seem to hate Bear because they remember him shoting them down in WC2 while he was trying to hit the enemy. Of course some people, like me, remember that someone like Hobbes shot at them more often, and that in the novels, Bear is one of the coolest characters.

Preach on, Earthworm! I like Bear. Forstchen made him into a likeable character.

Oh, you are subtle

. But quite correct. There are very few WC characters that I dislike more than Bear. And those few were all vile traitors and other types of scumbags.
I suppose he should feel honoured

Yeah... I don't like Bear either... I found him annoying. I happen to hate Jazz worst out of all WC characters however.

P.S. I still like it when I see people spell honour correctly on the 'net

Yes, Jazz is the most hate-able. Though Khasra is a very, very close second.

As for honour... only the Americans spell it "honor". Everybody else uses the correct, English way

Oh? So what other reason could it be? That he's a hero in Confed and Landreich?

No, nothing so important as fictitious glorification of an otherwise dismal character based on the likes of Bear. War does not make one great. And as far as my opinions, well although enititled to them, it would only be under scutiny, harmless that it may be, I just don't care to take precious time outlining character assessment at present because in my case, working and schooling full-time doesn't leave me the luxury to do so. Assaying a good book is much more worthwhile.

I still haven't read End Run or False Colours, but personally, I see something very fishy about the speed with which Bear was given command of a capital ship, when just a year earlier he had been a measly Lieutenant (or was it 2nd Lt?), who did nothing significant whatsoever, except take part (note that I say "take part", rather than "lead", as Forstchen, and Bear himself, seem to impy) in a mutiny.
Also I find it contemptible that he agreed with Tolwyn about engaging the Kilrathi ships even after the Armstice had been announced. Whether or not this decision later proved advantageous, is of no significance. The fact is, they had no right to do so, and had Bear been a worthy officer, he would have handed in his report of Tolwyn's actions to the President (or whoever) that very same day.

Quite, quite right, Quarto.
In ER, he appeared to be defensive of his actions on the Gettysburg.
He didn't want to lose the points he scored with the Admiral, of course by refusing to fire, but didn't he find out...oops

The thing is in ER Bear did something imposible with the Tarawa. Come on! "First to Kilrah"!!! You just have to give a ships to a guy like that. And I think that in ER he was a Captain (Wing Commander of the Tarawa?).

He went against 3 heavy carriers and their escorts, with only a destroyer and a corvette as escorts. True, he was lucky, he also proved that he has skills.

Wha? Why? He had two options, either tell the joint chiefs about that, and get Tolwyn, a man that has done a lot for him and the entire Confed, seriously screwd. Or keep quite about an incident, that wasn't the only one of that kind anyhow. Though even if he told the joint chiefs about it they wouldn't do anything about it, not yet.
