Ad Ben: Sound Commander (February 13, 2017)

Not exactly Sound Commander related... but in many ways better. Much better! I remember all of these clone cards coming out. While Ad-Lib and Roland had been around for awhile (The Ad-Lib and Roland MT-32 both came out in '87 but were mainly for musician and studio use), consumer sound cards...

    Windows 10 Update Broke WCP:SO?

I just installed Secret Ops from GOG, seems to work fine. I'll install the OpenGL patch and give an update a little later. Edit- downloaded the OpenGL from the wcnews section and installed it. Still seems to be working. I have all windows updates installed, Windows 10 64 bit. Standard...

    GoG WC II Control problem.

It sounds like a key rollover issue. With the exception of some high end gaming keyboards, modern keyboards can only recognize so many simultaneous keypresses. If you don't have a laptop andthere is any way to connect your keyboard to the old school ps2 (round) port, it may work better

I don't know, at least you could press the Turbo button on the 386 if things got too hairy...

new member, and just wanted to share a thought on wc4

I've just restarted my GOG fueled adventure with WC1 for the 90000th time. I'm still trying to get my joystick sensitivity and mappings right. At least I'd like to think that's the problem. The alternative is that my reflexes aren't what they were when I was in my teens... and that's just...

Complete WC GOG fixes and tweaks

I don't think MIDI is exactly a priority for Microsoft, though why the mapper was removed boggles the mind. If you have multiple MIDI devices installed, you can also use the dosbox command "mixer /listmidi" to show all the drivers that are installed and their associated ids (Munt would probably...

Complete WC GOG fixes and tweaks

I've recently purchased the GOG collection, and like others have had issues with Munt MT-32 emulation under Windows 8.1. Fortunately there's a simple workaround, which I thought I'd add to this thread for the benefit of others. Install and configure Munt and copy the modified Wc1 and Wc2...

    WC4 Install

I have a Attack 3 also (I don't know about you, but I've never been happy with it). If you're having dead zone or drifting issues in Wc3 under VDMSound, try the alternate joystick routing patch- it clears them right up, at least in XP. If the issue is something else, like no joystick at all-...

    Weird Problem w/ WC4

The 'Administration Thing' is only available in XP Professional (though it is available in safe mode in XP Home), though I agree that it sounds like a dead end. I take it we're discussing the cd version and not the dvd version.. (6 cds reference). As far as the whole WSG thing... maybe its...

Your favourite Privateer - II ship?

I finished the entire game in an Aurora. Don't ask me why, I had so much money I could afford any ship several times over. I even tried most of them out. I just.. really liked the Aurora.

Burn multi-CD (WC) games to DVD?...

That works rather well, actually. I did this for KS for example. It doesn't *really* save disc swapping (one would say minimizing the application and re-mounting the next cd image with your favorite mounting program is harder than physically swapping a disc) but it allows me to play KS without...

Burn multi-CD (WC) games to DVD?...

Wow, that's a mishmash of ideas.. heh. Unfortunately, there's no possible way that'd work. Both the PSX and PS2 utilize very strong copy protection. They won't recognize a cdr or dvdr at all (without a 'modchip' which of course introduces further complexity, not to mention being a precursor...

Burn multi-CD (WC) games to DVD?...

Sorry for the vagueness, it's been awhile. I'll repeat the experiment later this week if I have the opportunity. IIRC, the issue was that WC4 was not recognizing my 'homebrew' dvd at all. The error message was the same as you would receive if you tried to launch the game without the dvd in...

Burn multi-CD (WC) games to DVD?...

It seems to me this wouldn't be too difficult for wc3 at all, and I imagine wc4 (cd) either. You'd basically just to dump all of the files into the root of a single dvd. WC4 on the other hand... not so much (this I think would only be feasible with a double layer dvd anyway). I tried making...

    wc3 win5 patch?

The issue of not in-game having music when using the KS executable could also be easily worked around- as KS also included musiced.exe which allows you to customize your music with wav files. I doubt it'd be too difficult to extract the data from wc3music.tre- which I think was already done for...

    wc3 win5 patch?

Remember, with DirectX- a higher version than required by minimum requirements should work just fine. You should be able to get DirectX 9.0c from Windows Update or from www.microsoft.com/directx . I do not know if running this high of a DirectX version under '98 will affect KS in any negative...

WC3 KS Version fix on XP

I wonder. Because most of the issues with WC3 KS under XP do seem to be related to the playing of cutscenes, has anyone (with more programing know-how than I, obviously) tried to decompile the xanlib.dll and try to figure out why its doing what its doing? The more I think about the issue, the...

WC3 KS Version fix on XP

I definitely would say the patch is fantastic for keyboard issues as well as random crashes. I myself though am still having the problem where the game will occasionally completely freeze after playing a movie scene (a transition, a briefing, a cutscene). Disabling transitions and pressing...

    wc3 win5 patch?

It's been a long time since I've done it myself (when I got KS I *gave* away both DOS copies of WC3 I had. If I had only known more than 10 years later the problems I'd have getting it to work in XP....) IIRC, it does work just fine- the only disadvantage is due to the difference in the music...

WC3 KS and Windows 98 SE

Virtual PC isn't the *best* application for this- I found that while VPC had lot of video skip issues, and the game itself was a bit slowish... VMWare worked much better. I would imagine, since you have more horsepower than I do (I have a p4 3.2) VMware would make a quite smooth ride...
