The TCS Lexington jumps to the Hellespont System, where she immediately scrambles her ready group. Upon takeoff, Col. Blair immediately receives a distress call from the Velden Jones, part of a convoy under attack by a Lance fighter. Blair leads Patrol 6 to the convoy, but arrives too late to do any good. He dispatches the two patrol elements in fish-hook search patterns, with orders to send a fighter back to the Lexington when anything is discovered. During his search, Blair locates and pursues the escaping fighter to a Caernaven frigate on the edge of an asteroid field. 2nd Lt. Carter returns to the Lexington to summon the ready group, which returns in full force to engage the frigate. "Troubadour" leads Raid Six, two elements of Thunderbolt VIIs, to disable the frigate's shields and turrets. Strike Six, two elements of Longbows, launch anvil attacks on the port and starboard of the frigate. Lt. Grigbsy in Longbow 1014 fires a single Mark IV torpedo, destroying the enemy ship.

Phase One of the mission to rescue Dr. Brody begins. Blair jets over a Sprint SSM site at treetop level, hoping to disable the site's crew without killing them. They continue to return fire, forcing him to destroy the site. Blair and Marshall engage a pair of militia Vindicators. Green flight destroys two more SSM sites, the local roads, runway and power grid. Half of White Beta Flight stays close to protect the assault transport. The TCS Lexington, designated Gamble, orders that Phase Two of the rescue mission begin. Maj. Marshall's Hellcat's leave to engage inbound enemy forces. Blair destroys two unoccupied laser turrets, an atmospheric shuttle and part of a building. Green Three destroys an unidentified target in the middle of a forest. Blue Transport 535 lands to begin Objective Blue, the capture of Dr. Brody. The transport canvases the area with its laser turrets and then sounds charge, unloading several Marine squads. The Marines move in on three structures, attacking with RPGs. They secure Dr. Brody, and then complete two undocumented objectives: Red, the execution of the rest of the base's scientists and Gold, the destruction of the base with charges. Blair's squadron escorts the Marine transport out of the atmosphere.

The surviving Border Worlds forces retreat. The Lexington launches SAR craft to pick up ejected pilots from both sides. Blue Transport 535 lands on the TCS Louis B. Puller, prompting the TCS Agamemnon to head out-System.

Seether lands arrives onboard a VIP shuttle, bringing with him six new Project fighter pilots and orders to take command of the ship's starboard bay complement. Paulson meets the shuttle on the flight deck, unnerved at Seether's arrival. Blair leaves his fighter as the deck is reopened, and is spotted by one of the Marines. Blair hides behind a pile of containers.
