Wing Commander TV Show

I dunno, they advertised the heck out of Final Fantasy... the public just didn't react to a 3D movie that wasn't for kids.

I've never played Final Fantasy before, and from what I can tell the movie had nothing to do with the games in any way... but I rather enjoyed the movie.

I thought the Final Fantasy movie was pretty cool and I am a huge fan of the games... but it was nothing like the games and that was a bit of a shame but you could tell that from the previews...

i forget who said it but a great point was made in that the WC Movie was made for millions of people, not just the fans who spend all there time talking about... one could say it's a bad movie based from the games and being a hardcore fan but it was also a bad sci-fi movie...

I think the *sci fi* aspect of the WC movie was really cool: it created this neat universe and this fantasticly unique style... it was the non-sensical story that ruined it for everybody (G)

Most of the people I know have played the Final Fantasy's-and having been one of the first people in my little group of friends to see it, I just told them it wasn't like the games. Ended up that after they heard that from a few of us, most of them didn't go see it. I think most people expected it to have a more fantasy edge to it than it did.

I kind of agree with you there. The feel of the movie was actually pretty cool. If it wasn't WC, it might have even been alittle bit cooler.

The thing is, when the movie came out I was a non-hardcore fan of WC. I had beaten WC3 and 4 and enjoyed them quite a bit and loved Wing Commander. When I saw previews for the movie, I said "That looks nothing like Wing Commander...I have no desire to see it"...and I didn't until about 2 years ago.

However, if the movie at least had a decent story, it would have been different. I would have at least accepted it as a good movie.

I've played quite a few Final Fantasy games but didn't expect much from the movie. I was horribly disappointed, but not because I'm some hardcore RPG fan, I just didn't like the movie. The dialouge was pretty... banal, though it was very, very pretty to watch.

I think it might have been wonderful if it was made like Fantasia: all visuals and music and no dialouge.

i think the Final Fantasy movie would have been great is they just used the storyline from Final Fantasy 3 that was on SNES... by far, the greatest one in the series however the lastest one for PS2 is very addictive

Just for the record LeHah Claire Redfield was in Resident Evil 2, it was Jill Valentine who appeared in Nemesis, and no since in the games you play as guys as often as girls its hard to claim one female character, who in the other game she appears in is in a not even slightly revealing uniform I think its a stretch to say it was intended to sell Resident Evil.

As for the movie maybe it was bad, maybe, as far as horror movies go it was an ok movie I know that much at any rate as most are appauling and if you payed attention in RE everything made sense and no one ever said the infamous line "lets split up" once the zombies had appeared. Hence as horror movies go it was either good or ok.
And as far as fans go it was good (not great there was 1 minor inconsistancy with the games I didn't notice till it was pointed out in one of the forums and that less hardcore fans would miss) and it performed well, so if it really is a bad movie that only supports the theory that staying true to the games generates success. However RE is, whilst not my favourite series (obviously WC is) it is one of them, and anything short of horrible inconsistancies with the game wouldn't make me not like it. WC did have those inconsistancies, as well as the bad plot (but RE wasn't shakespeare, it all glued together but both RE:CV and RE2, possibly even RE1 outshine it in terms of plot)

Who cares if a bad movie keeps continuity with a game series? It's still a bad movie and it had horrific acting.

I can't comment on the acting, for one thing I've always really though Milla Jovovich, the lead part was a damn good actress.
Also I don't think it was a really bad movie, but this isn't the point, it doesn't matter what you think, what matters is if it sold well, and within 1 week in 1 country it had covered its $30million production costs, god knows what it managed across the globe after a month of showing in each country and after DVD sales (the DVD isn't even available here).
Hence it must REALLY mean a hell of a lot is a movie is true to the games is a "really bad movie" as you put it can turn over such a tremendous profit.

I thought the wc movie had decent acting, but the STORYLINE was HORRIBLE. Twas the biggest load of crap i'd ever seen, our fanfiction is MUCH better. now if they'de done a movie of Fleet Action.... WC WOULD RULE THE WORLD

Why I hate Secret Ops and WCP,
Secretops
NO FMV
TOO MANY DAMN PATROLS
No character interaction
SO & WCP
no enemy aces
no "FEEL" the bugs were annoying, there was no real hatred like the cats had... there was no thrakhath character to piss you off and make you want to kill.
The Bugs, annoyingly predictable that a species of bugs was chosen.
Capships - PUHLEEASE where the hell did the confed fleet go?
as if they'd have upgraded the entire fleet in that time.

Darkmage I agree with your points about SO but...

WCP:
There were Bug aces, they weren't ever named but they were there
There wasn't any real faces on the Kilrathi until WC2, in WC1 they were just a species with only one or two references to the Emperor and Thrakath
Not really predictable that a race of bugs was chosen, with the budget I'd have expected the standard star trek style putty on the nose and hes an alien job :p The nephilim had the potential to be scary, they really managed it in the fiction in the manual. Like a plague entering our galaxy devouring all things ;)
Capships - totally agree it was a disgrace never meeting anything but transports

I also disliked not being able to fly through anything, what was that? BTW about the aces. even in WC1 there WERE named aces. Bahktosh redclaw, Dakhath, khajja, Bhurak... they were all named and even had psyche profiles!
the confed fleet would have cost billions, surely the sister ships to the lady lex would still have been around.

A dificult prediction, the game was released 5 years ago....
but surely you knew that in 1995.

You're criticising a game for net letting you fly through hangers? Talk about minor nit picking

You would think the Midway would have a couple of capship escorts. Confed wouldn't want all that money to go down the tube.

Read your ICIS manual: the Midway class was designed to *save money* by operating alone (as a mobile starbase) during peace time (not to mention that, at the outset of WCP, Midway was only on her shakedown cruise...).

I also disliked not being able to fly through anything, what was that?

You could fly between the parts of the Midway, you could fly through the center of Ella, you could fly through the spokes of the dreadnought, etc. What you didn't like was that the game didn't have exactly the same ship as WC4... (and, of course, we all criticized WC4 *because* it had the same ship as WC3... irony!)

BTW about the aces. even in WC1 there WERE named aces. Bahktosh redclaw, Dakhath, khajja, Bhurak... they were all named and even had psyche profiles!

This would have worked with the story how? Better to complain about WCIV, which simply labeled fighters 'Ace'. Surely it'd make more sense to know who your enemy is when you... know who your enemy is.

the confed fleet would have cost billions, surely the sister ships to the lady lex would still have been around.

The Lexington herself is still around -- as a memorial (mentioned at the wcp website). However, we were serving off the *Midway* and had no reason to see any other carriers... (although the Eisen showed up).
