Tryed to install by copying all cdrom onto harddisk and clicking on winstall ..but it says it can't find it. Tryed clicking on DOS install and of course it will only accept floppy (a) and not my hard disk. considered transferring onto floppy but too many disks.
How can I install it on Windows 98, i imagine i will need a boot disk?
Of course when it executes automaticlly and the WC2 initial screen starts and I click on install it just doesn't do anything.

Try adding the following to your config.sys file and rebooting:

PATH=C:\PORNXXX

Where PORNXXX is the directory where you've copied your WC2 files to.

Interesting choice of directory name, Chris. :confused:

The WINSTALL program with WC2 simply patches the game to play from CD. There shouldn't be a need to use any install program other than to configure sound.

You've already copied the game to the hard drive, so just make sure all the files have the read-only attribute switched off. Then use the install program to set up sound, or just type:

WC2 V A904

or something like that.

WC Porn. Well, female Kilrathi have 6 breasts, that should help.

WC2 read-only off but another prob.

Concerning installation of WC2.

but got no expanded memory detected as loading WC2
pretty sure I selected no music just to see if it would work but no luck. Will look into myself but considering my progress made

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you ;)

No, really, there isn't very much I can help you with. You need 2 drivers to get CDs going in DOS. One is MSCDEX (goes into autoexec.bat). The other is a device driver (something.sys) that goes into config.sys. That one I cannot help you with. It should have come with your CD driver. You can also try to run several generic drivers and hope some will work with your drive...

Post your system files, Woolmer, it's not that hard to get expanded memory. When I first managed to get WC2 running with EMS, I was very, very happy. :)

systems file info for woolmer

Hoping this is what u need ... DXDIAG info
If not please respond.
Er have that info ready but can not seem to send as a file attach. It won't let me send you a direct e-mail. Will try find your email address and send another way. Unless your just wnating config.sys and autoexec.bat and command.com files?

config and autoexec for woolmer

couldn't post email directly so...
config.sys
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\setver.exe
device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=044,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys

autoexec.bat
@C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVG6\bootup.exe
mode con codepage prepare=((850) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
last 2 lines same line
mode con codepage select=850
keyb uk,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\keyboard.sys

hope that's what you need. Woolmer

Yikes, what a mess! I can't remember exactly - someone might want to correct me, but I think all you need is to add this at the start of CONFIG.SYS:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE 16384 RAM

Extra parameters shouldn't be necessary, and 16MB should be plenty for WC2. :)

oh man! woolmer

Er.. my config.sys and auto.exec files I gave you are from outside windows my windows ones are differnt hve stuck the 16384 line in and i think the other was present. But after saying loading wing com2 and expanded memory detected it starts beeping continuously and the cd stops.
Have good memories of the first wing comm but am beginning to think this aint worth it. It's origins WC2 deluxe.
Was it Lance Casey? who seemed to have same prob as me.
although mine is win98. When install screen starts and you click on install it just stops, and also it did say something about no origin fx drivers at one point.
Thought I was making progress when I changed read only attr.? Has Casey sorted it out yet?

Huh? Inside and outside Windows? You should only have one set of start-up files unless you're using a boot disk... :confused:

Nope. There is a config.sys and a config.dos (or a config.sys and a config.w40 if you are in DOS).
Windows 95 and 98 (probably also Me) do have 2 different sets of files.

That's odd. I've only ever used DOS, Win3.1, Win95, and Win98, and I've only ever had the one set of start-up files in the root directory. Probably because I insist on cleaning out unused junk and customising the start-up files myself.

Oops ,yeah, got my boot disk files mixed up with my system config and autoexec. . The lines I gave were my config/autoexec and I will try those two lines you said again just in case I messed it first time around.
