it's been a while since this forum has been active, so i'l start a new thread with the following question:

are relationships beyond friendship (dating & intimacy) allowed on Confed capships?

I ask out of curiosity and because it plays a big part in the novel

other comments about the interplay between Trent and Elise are welcome too
 
Whether such relationships do or do not happen, and whether such relationships are allowed or not allowed are separate issues. It is clear that people do (who can stop people from "falling in love"? And there are several cases of romance in the WCU), but the unofficial line could be that it is generally advised against. Whether Confed actually has regulations against such behaviour, I do not know. It might fall under that heading of "sexual harrassment".
 
Sexual harrassment only happens if one party(usually the female in today's society) doesn't wanna be touched, so I don't think it would be that. They do AFAIK, split up married couples in the military.
 
I would say that that its generally frowned upon and probably against regulations (I believe Jason says something to that effect in Fleet Action, when he rules out a romance with Sparks if they were going to serve together again after the Armistice), but doesn't attract the same penalties that fraternisation does in the real life military.

ETA: I found that quote from Fleet Action, Page 96. "Even though they were not part of the Confederation Fleet anymore, he still wanted his ship run by Fleet rules, one of which was that no personal relationships were allowed between commanding officers and those serving under them."
 
it's not as though i could take the romance subplot out at this stage, but then again, forbidden love is always dramatic

also, since Elise is Trent's first serious attraction, he might let the rule Raptor quoted to slip, or maybe the rule was changed since the Fleet Action era

does anyone know what WCP said on this issue? I don't have prophecy, but i know that Casey had something for an engineer (or is it the other way around?)

maybe someone could look for it in the WCP fiction

Eww, WCP and romance didn't work out.

The closest thing to 'romantic' WCP came to was probably the final scene with Casey and Stiletto.
 
I don't think so. Maestro was joking about it at the start, and I think they might have been a bit more than friends, but I don't think they were really a couple in the romantic sense.
 
While you are at it, I would suggest you try to enlist the services of model Donna Decianni. In addition to being a swimsuit model , she has also modeled for many romance novels and stories. I'm sure Casper Station will benefit greatly of having a person like her on the cover of their future artwork, and attract the attention of romance novel enthusiasts and not just WC fans. :rolleyes:

This COULD be interpreted to mean that relationships between equals (Officers or not) were possible, being that it states only relationships between officers and those they command were not allowed.
 
Eh, whatever the rules may say, Angel was involved with Blair right under Tolwyn's nose, and they didn't try to keep it a secret. Considering how much Tolwyn disliked Blair at the time, Blair would have probably lost his job had anybody really cared about such rules. As for Bear, given how his previous romance worked out, the rules may have just been an excuse.
 
Besides, IIRC, Trent is Navy and Elise is Intellignce (TCIS) in your story aren't they? That would mean she really doesn't report to him, she's kindof out of the command scope. Anyway, I have no idea, just trying to find a reason for you to leave it in. I'd say your best example is the Blair/Angel relationship in WC2, not encouraged, but allowed ;).

Under Tolwyn's nose? Under everyone's 'noses'. :) Sparks knew about it quite early, and if she hadn't worked it out then, she would have known it along with everyone else when they kissed in front of the celebration on the flight deck.
 
There wasn't much Tolwyn could do about that. It would have been a little hard for to bust a guy who had just been cleared of treason, shot down the heir to the Kilrathi throne *and* given Confed control of Vega sector.

Besides, if I understand it correctly, doesn't the heavier penalty for fraternisation fall on the senior officer? Tolwyn would have had to bust Angel as well, and whatever else you could say about him, he wasn't that spitefull.

hopefully, Trent ends up saving confed (like everybody else), and he'll get a little slack to be with Elise - i still haven't written the end yet, though chapter 11 is soon coming

also, psych, i would hope that you would read the story without me having to put a swimsuit model on the front page...
 
Enigma sector, Raptor. :p But your point is good. And no, Tolwyn is definitely not spiteful, at least not by the Special Operations. I have to say, when I first played SO1, I was surprised at how friendly Tolwyn was to Blair in recommending him to Special Ops. Even when telling Blair to obey Taggart's orders, it seemed to me that Tolwyn would say that rather jokingly.

But every romance story needs a model to complement the cover page. :( No picture will not give your story the "umph" to make it the romance story that you wish for it to be. It's just like eating a hot dog without the bun, or reading a book without the book, or watching a porn without the synthetic techno beat music :(

But if you are going to take your romance up a notch, I'm sure there are some user-based music share programs that will enable you to download some porn music mp3s, so you can attach them to the site to play as people will read your newest stories :cool:
