View Virtual Victory Video (January 5, 2006)

AD's been working hard on his Wing Commander themed Half Life 2 level, and this time he's got videos to prove it. The first video is a 7 meg wmv that explores an access duct under the deck. The second clip clocks in at 18 megs and shows some of the weaponry in action. While you're waiting for those to download, check out AD's status report and screenshots below. The third image features the tentative housing for the map room to come.
There is still a lot of work to do with textures and sounds, and the side halls need a lot of detail. I need to figure out ladders and elevators, but the layout is mostly complete. You'll notice there aren't any ships, so there isn't much cover while on the flight deck yet. Once the weapons are modded into WC pistols and such, I hope to release a workable beta to get your impressions and feedback.

This will be fantastic if you ever "finish" this. !

Hehehe.. Thats a valid concern considering how many mods never get very far... and of course "finishing" is something of a concerting prospect at the moment condidering its just me working on this so far and i'm a decidedly amature talent when making 3D maps and models are concerned.

Anyway thanks for the interest. The window wall in flight control is done I just have to decide if I like the size as it seems a little too wide. (no screens of that yet because I havent recompiled it yet.) and most of the side halls are done except that I havent added any "dummy" doors to give the impression that there are other areas you just can't access. Eventually that access hall under the flight deck will be jull of junk and pipes and such. but right now its pretty much there for functionality.

In almost all games, those really tease me. :(

How about that fancy update headline?

Personally, I greatly enjoyed alliteration day at the CIC news. You should do that more often. :p

Hehehe, that was pretty good. And with V at that!

Ok, Heres the Flight Control window wall. oddly the room seems a little too wide. And those bullet hits are only showing up on the one side (as soon as you go through the sliding glass door the glass is clear on the other side and bullets don't seem to hit it so I need to figure out what's the problem there)

Oh, and I have it playing Wing Commander music in the startup user interface.

I would have expected nothing less...

So I did some tinkering and improved the video quality of what I have playing when the game starts. And then I figured out which files to edit to change the title screen. One file changes the actual words, and another changes where they are on the screen, what font they are, whast size the font is, what color, and how bright.

Now I just need to figure out how to change the picture

(Don't put any stock in the title displayed as I just needed something to test with and this seemed like a good play on Counter-Strike :) )

Yay, after a LOT of tinkering and testing I did it! So this displays along with one of four randomly chosen WC tunes!

It needs some tinkering though to get the works composited on the image properly and clearly (mostly color and positioning adjustment) and the Title will most likely change. I can, with much work, make it a 3d scene too with things going on in the background but I wont do that for a looooong time to come.

Or does something more like this suit your tastes?

Likewise, the first one is much better IMHO. That's really cool. So, at this point it seems to me what you are yet lacking then is:

1. Confed Marine Models (or at least Confed textures for a CS character)
2. Kilrathi Marine Models (I don't think a different character will work for a Kilrathi here).
3. Confed and Kilrathi weapons.

I bet the weapons will be the hardes part to do. I never could figure out how to create weapons for any game engine...much less the new CS. Once you have those three then you're pretty much set for a full on game. You could slowly design new maps and release them. I know I'd sure as heck buy a copy of the new CS to play this. :)

If you buy half-life 2 I think you automaticaly get CS:S and HL2: deathmatch. (plus any other source mod you want to download) So value per dollar I would buy half-life 2 ( a pretty decent FPS in my opinion) if you don't already have it... and it runs with fairly minimal specs too - it just won't look quite as good.

Yeah, I will eventualy need those, althoug I will consider the map playable without them. Theres a number of touches that need done. Yet that arent necessary aparent at first sight. But I am also going to need models of computers and monitors and such. And that chair... I downloaded some ship models from the CIC but I haven't spent enought time figuring out how to compile them so the source engine can use them (its a texture problem).

Things I'd like to do but won't be in an initial release are having one of the ships open and being able to fire its guns (maybe a longbow's turret or any other ship but not allow motion of gun.) or be able to turn on it's engines to fry someone behind.

It may be possible to make ships flyable but for that I would need someone with programming skills to come on board (so far this is a solo effort). Apparently someone is making a driving game mod in source (although vehicles arnet much of a stretch from the dune buggy in HL2) I might make the tractor drivable though.. That might be fun... but again that wont be in the initial release.

Quick question: I want a kilrathi marine shuttle either parked or crashed into the front end of the flight deck. What ship would that be? And has anybody modeled one?

The one with the Half Life toilet? I don't like that one because it doesn't have anything to do with Wing Commander at all. Either of the other two is fine. I like the computer terminal best.

False Colors claims the Kilrathi have one shuttle that they build variants of for different purposes. Their assault shuttle is Naktarg-class.

A good possibility for the visual would be the Kilrathi shuttle in WCIV: https://www.wcnews.com/ships2/wc4kshuttle.shtml

We also see a cute little Kilrathi shuttle on WCA: https://cdn.wcnews.com/newershots/full/wcatv-kshuttle.jpg

Hmm, that wc4 one could work... I'll probably go with that.

Quick question: The Kamekh in wc2 is a small corvette isnt it? Would they possibly use that to transport troops too? (although it's probably too wide to fit on the flight deck). I also remember someone mentioning an obscene number of troops being carted around in a Dorkathi.

Concordia: We’ve detected a pair of Dorkathi troop transports in the system. We don’t know why they have strayed from their destroyer escort, but you and Stingray will intercept them and stop them from rejoining their convoy.
Stingray: Roger that, and lemme at ’em, Concordia!
Concordia: Glad to hear your enthusiasm, Stingray. Just keep it under control. We’ve beamed you an updated patrol pattern, putting you on an intercept with the transports.
Maverick: Roger, Concordia. Each of those transports can carry over a thousand enemy troops…
Concordia: Correct, Maverick. Each transport you take out is a thousand troops our Marines don’t have to worry about. We expect that they’ll have a fighter escort, so be careful. The transports are your main targets, so don’t let them escape. They don’t have phase shields, so you can use guns on them instead of missiles. The Concordia will continue on her current course and you will rendezvous with us after your mission. Good luck, gentlemen. Concordia out.

Yeah, thats the one I was remembering, but that sounds way to big for what I want to use. I'd think it overkill to board a carrier with 1000 troops... I think that wc4 shuttle will do just fine, though if possible the Kamekh would be more interesting to look at. That would be pretty funny if the small ship were battle damaged and they decided to ram the Carrier and got wedged in the end of the flight deck...
