Toughest ace to beat in WC (any)

Ironically, Thrakhath is a kilrathi prince and supposedly the most deadly pilot they have, yet he had to be the easiest ace of all of them in WC3. It must have had something to do with the fact that you face him with a cloaked excalibur ;). I thought it was funny when you were cloaked sitting right behind him and he replied to my taunts by saying, "ah, I have you now, I am on your tail." What an idiot, I was the one on his tail.

Taking down Thrakhath in the behemoth go boom mission isn't too difficult either. Just unload all your missiles at him and high tail it back to the Victory. Just make sure to do this after the scene where Angel gets skewered otherwise you won't get landing clearance.

Thrakhath was the most pitiful excuse for an ace imaginable, the darkets escorting him in the Kilrah mission were more challenging then him.

I always had trouble with Khaja the Fang in wc1, well he wasn't really the problem, his wingmen who tore me to shreds while i focuesed on him were. He did kill maniac once though which was nice.

Kur was hardest to kill for me, although this could be because I was in a Rapier & I always found the Rapier missions in WC2 the toughest to complete.
I ran out of afterburner fuel a lot, wich was almost always fatal in a Rapier (WC2)

I remember Kur being very hard, yeah. I'm surprised nobody mentioned Dakkhath though, because of the TEN DRALTHI you have to deal with in that mission along with him, pretty 6x5. I pulled it off, but it wasn't my first try and it was totally insane when I did it.

I'd say my vote for hardest ace to actually KILL is Bhurak Starkiller. I've downed him though, but I haven't finished the shortest path in WC1...I just can't beat that captured Ralari mission.

Um, I think you may be mistaken just a little. Missiling him to death after the scene of Angel's fate doesn't matter.

However, for those playing the Kilrathi Saga version of WC3, the second he dies, in that mission, the Victory jumps out, even if the countdown by Rollins still has a good bit of time left. The original DOS release will allow him to die and you to land, but that's not an "official" kill as far as the game is concerned, so he'll be back later (which is a better time to go after him anyway, since in the Kilrah series you have more substantial firepower than that which you have available from the Hellcat or Arrow you are allowed to fly in Loki 3).

There's nothing wrong with a few extra Raptor missions in Rostov, didn't beat the Ralari mission either. Wow, you even expanded all fuel on Kur? Quite persistant of you. At least you get something to be proud of when you finally waste him.

Hehe, indeed. It usually takes me about half a tank of gas to take out Bhurak, and some quick flying to bring his attack wing down to 1 Salthi before he goes, which is about all Paladin can handle! :p

Trakhath was a pain in the ass in WC2, but in WC3 he was a joke. Once I got to a full stop in my Arrow and did nothing. He couldn't kill me because he stayed at almost maximum range of his guns!!! The AI just couldn't handle this scenario.

That Deathstroke ace in WC1 was difficult and the one in the Jalthi, because you had to dodge like hell or the 6 lasers would tear you apart. Jazz was annoying because it usually took me half an hour to get him killed.

Kur was the nastiest ace I ever fought. After a dozen tries or so, I managed to take him out, barely, with a very crippled figther.

'Course, a few years later, once I discovered that I had afterburners, Kur was a piece of cake, compared to before. Only took me a couple of tries. :p

Side note: beating WC2 without afterburners is very, very hard.

I also really hated the Salthi ace. The way I remember that mission happening was either he'd destroy the Drayman and then I'd barely hunt him down, or I'd successfully protect the Drayman but he totally got away.

I have to agree with some of the earlier posts. Starkiller was a really tough ace to beat because of the circumstances. It was hard enough trying to stay on his tail, but having to defend that Drayman made it so incredibely tough. I almost always never kill him, as he flees the scene after absorbing enough damage. The first ace I kill is Dakkath. He is a wuss.

Actually, that is incorrect. Dakkhath was not a wuss. It was just that he was so single-minded that you could use that to your advantage. He would never flee, so one of you was gonna die. Outflying him did not seem to take a lot of effort.

Bhurak was annoying, basically if you didn't kill him in one pass you'd be very lucky to get him as his Salthi was far faster than your Scimitar. However a DF at close range coupled with Mass Drivers usually sorted him out.

Skanks - actually I think you can run Bhurak out of gas. A scim has more fuel than a Salthi by a LARGE margin apparently. :p

Khasra is one I totally forgot about - that's the mission I could NEVER finish. :(

Yeah but I tend to use my AB a lot during combat, so I don't always have a full tank when I get to him.

The toughest Ace is without doubt Thrakhath after the Behemoth eats it. An Arrow/Hellcat versus the Bloodfang? He isn't tough when you uncloak behind him with full guns blazing (and firing FOF missiles every half second) on the Kilrah run.

In Wc1, I hated every Ace. They were such cowards. I had to hunt them down quickly.

The Paktahn ace in WCIII always gave me some trouble because of that damned rear turrett. The "regular" Paktahns weren't too bad but that one guy use to do a lot of pain in the ass maneuvers.

Paktahns are easy, just dive at their sides or curve into their rear. The first time I killed Bloodmist, I didn't even notice his Ace status before I killed him.

Bhurak is the hardest WC1 ace for me, because IIRC I usually fight all the others when I'm flying a Raptor. Dakkath takes a full gun salvo in the face in Gimle 3, Bakhtosh Redclaw dies in Dakota 3, and I think I get Khajjia in one of the Rostov missions. Bhurak runs away, and I can't catch him without losing the Drayman. Oddly enough, I can kill him easily in the SNES version of Wing Commander.

Everything seems much easier on the SNES version. Some may think it is harder since you have to use the gamepad to fly but the kilrathi appear to fly in a simpler way on the SNES. I sometimes found that some kilrathi ships would never come within a certain distance of me, which I hear is due to the SNES being unable to keep track of too many ships being around you at once. This meant you rarely got swarmed by enemy fighters, so you could concentrate easier on aces like Bhurak. Even the mission to save the Ralari was relatively easy on the SNES version of wing commander.
