Torps & Capships

Since the "would it be practical for Origin" topic generated several posts on this, I figured a new thread might help.

For myself, I love the Plasma Gun on the Devastator. Two-shot kill for transports, a little more perhaps for other ships. The number one short-coming of the bug capships, really, was that the engines of the big ones were these big circular monstrosities that masked the fire of their own defensive guns once you were in close. Get in close, match speed, and you could wait forever for a torp lock on the engines unless the fighter cover was strong.

I'm presently playing through WCIII which I was finally able to get, and loving the T-bolt in the early missions with Vagabond on my wing. Beat the skipper mission easily by running out and torping the corvette before it got into Skipper range ;)

Yeah, a big BOOM to the Kitties. I've already said, and others will agree I'm sure, WC2 are really quite simple to take down once fighter cover is eliminated.

No its not, because the flak guns Target you AND the torpedos, forcing you to be in their range until the torpedos Hit, if you get out of range the guns go after the Torpedo and destroy it. and those guns really do some damage to your Ship.
Your ship is slow and the torpedo is a little faster that your ship, and the 20 sec lock on time is really nice.
A big BOOM to the Kitties but most of the times its a small BOOM for the Bomber.

Eh, neither flak, nor antimatter is much of a problem in most of the missions. Only in several where capships actually have an AI that's suposed to go after you can they became a pain in the arse. But most of the time the WC2 capships won't be to dangerous.

And of course there's a way to lock your torps like 26,000 klicks away from the ship, which makes your job much easier.

You tell him, EW! :)

Really, 26000 is a bit excessive. IIRC, flak range is 12000, and targetting range is about 15000. Useful, even if the capship is moving.

Funny fact of the day: WC2 capships, as far as I've seen in various WC2 missions, always use the same AI settings. What makes certain capships tougher is their mission objective - the tough ones are those who believe their purpose in life (or at least in this mission) is to kill you.

WC Torps and Cap Ships

In WC II U can target those caps from 26000 using the F9 key if I remember until the cap ship appeat surrondead by brackets then press L and you get the look.

Another way of downing a cap ship in WC II is beginning the torp lock then run toward it with a slightly of targe angle and when in range drop your explosive gift.

Those two Fralhtra in the last mission in Secret Operations 1 weren't easy with those escorting Gothri fighters 'cause U needed to begin the dogfight away from the caps.

You can also target the ship and select any hardpoint other than a torp (chaff also works) than just turn around and fly away untill you’re around 25,000 klicks away, stop, turn around and select the torp. It should start locking on at this time.
