SWC question

HammerHead

Rear Admiral
I just wanted to know why was Wing Commander's visual apearence was completly redesigned for Super Wing Commander...

Personaly I prefer the original...

Since they couldn't reuse the artwork, or it would not be *super*, they decided to do it differently.

It also give the community happy debate topics like how an eye-patched pilgrim ever became the leader of the senate.

:D

Who knows I own a mac and when it came out I was happy to see how WC would be on it...it was different to say the least but I still had a PC to play all the originals...I found this over at mac gamer...it's interesting because it appears like it's been written after WC III had been ported to the mac (which is a true port unlike SWC) because it's mentioned in the review...Mac Gamer Review an interesting read none the less...

I actually asked Sean Murphy this the other day, without knowing this thread was going on. He says the artists (of which he was one) weren't given any direction as to what the ships should look like - just 'make a fighter' or such. So they ended up with ships that looked much more badass than they really should have. :)

I'll thank you to leave my political aspirations off of the Chat Zone.

So it's a pure coincidence that many of the ships closely resemble certain other Wing Commander ship models? That's... interesting.

Keep in mind that SWC was made before Armada and such... most of the models (with the exception of the few WC2 reuses like the Drayman) were made for SWC and reused on other games later.

the models look very nice. swc was the first version of wc i've ever played, so the models in wc1 and wc2 were very diffirent to me :)

:-\

SWC *does* take some getting used to, as I have found. The game seems a bit "meaner" than the original (a bit more serious and a lot more imposing), and also does things very different than the original.

That being said, it's still a fun game... but I'll take the original over it any day :)

The models divide like this, as best I can figure:

Original: Hornet, Rapier II, Dilligent, Drayman, Krant, Ralari, Fralthi, Sivar, Star Post, Lumbari

Similar Designs (Different Meshes): Venture (Broadsword), Exeter (Waterloo), Jalthi (Jalkehi)

Existing Models: Dorkir (WC2 Kilrathi Depot)

Later Reused: Scimitar (Banshee), Raptor (Gladius), Bengal (Lexington), Salthi (Priv Salthi), Dralthi (Priv Dralthi), Gratha (Talon/Mystery Ship), Snakeir (Shiraak)

SWC does seem a bit "meaner" during gameplay, I often found it harder at some points and the combat was odd to me at first because of the way the models look like they are moving around...

Yes, I believe there's a Mac emulator out there that'll work on top end PCs. There isn't a working 3DO emulator yet... but there's a hardware solution, an ISA card called the '3DO Blaster' that lets you play 3DO games on the PC.

yeah you can use a mac emulator that does OS 9, you don't need one that tries to emulate OS X (10.x.x)

Does anyone have any specific reccomendations for a good MacOS emulator? A google search produced very few results. Am I correct in assuming that SWC works on both a 68k and a Power PC?

yeah it will run on both PowerPC and 68040 (but not 030s and below) you would want to get a PowerPC emulator for the best results. I'm not sure of a good emulator (I own one why fake it?) but hopefully someone else can help you...I'll see what I can dig up by asking some people....

any idea where I can find this emulator? I bought SWC a few years ago thinking it was for Windows but then I found out it was for Mac andI really wanna try out this game that Ive had for about 4 years lol.
