Standoff stuff.

Mr. Standoff
There's a big Standoff update at http://standoff.wingcenter.de/ so I suggest you guys and girls go check it out...

But first, tell me which of these looks better... (try not to take the anti-aliasing of the first pic into consideration :-P):

BTW, LOAF, I could use a render of the Drakhri if you have time to do it.

TIA,

Before I start criticising, ehm... WHOA amazing! (as always) ;)

Now... I don't know what you mean by anti-liasing effect... if it's the "tile effect" in the first pic, then by taking abstraction of that, pic 1 is better...

Pic 2 though has the nice grey "brush" effect on the wings, which makes you think the fighter served for many sorties, hence it making it more "realistic"! :-)

But modeling-wise, I like the first pic more. :)

*whispering* mpanty, they're both the same model... :)

So, we've got one vote for the "add another layer of dirt to the new textures" option :)

BTW, the anti-aliasing is just the softening around the edges of the model.

Ahhh... but how could I not know? They both look perfect! ;)

And if that's what anti-aliasing is, then it's better with round edges...

but don;t they have different textures? The textures on pic #2 do look better

I agree! Those ships aren't exactly brand-spanking new, and I'm sure they don't wash and wax them between flights... thus my choice is number 2! :)

I dunno, Eder, your models always look great, but I didn't really like the texturing on the Raptor from the start. But the new one has blurry looking textures, so I dunno which one is better.

I've always preferred the shiny spankin' new look myself - perhaps you could use both, one for a fresh ship, the other for a damaged one? In your update you say that the Rapier's textures also look bad... but I like the way it is at the moment. Or are you referring to the 'wear and tear is more realistic' look again?

Yeah, that's my point. The Rapier looks too damn clean, even for a relatively new ship (in 2663)

As for the Raptor... I'll try to make the new textures (pic #1) look more worn out, since everyone seems to think (and I agree, actually) that it looks too clean.

The First pic looks fake. The second looks real. They are both great, and I agree with mpanty on their accessments.

Or otherwise, if people complain too much, you can claim it's straight out of the shipyard... ;)

The server seems to go down sometimes, I apologize for that :(
Anyway, if you managed to get to the site you know that I've found someone to texture the Kilrathi ships for me.... So I'd like you all to tell me what you think of this guy's work. Here's the Hhriss:

As for the Raptors, well, the "straight from the shipyard" version would look out of place in Standoff's storyline, since you are assigned to just some cruiser, not a brand new state of the art supercarrier... <G> But still, it wouldn't hurt to include both.

try to use Blender

http://www.blender.nl/

is a ez modeling program, I'm making some ships with it, problem is you can not texture ship on there, or at least i hav't found how to, Elder, maybe you texture guy can help me later :D

Even you can make a full game on it, but i don't know how

Thanx for the tip 15th Rampage, it will be very usefull to me. Can't afford to buy 3d Studio Max right now... ;)

Well, I don't see what is wrong a clean ship.

Aircraft in our day (and before) are always kept clean, even if only because clean aircraft have less drag and hence travel faster and fly better.

In space this doesn't matter so much, but then again, in space there is nothing to make the ship dirty in the first place. I might expect a little scorching around the engines and gun muzzles, and maybe a few laser burns and battle damage on the armor, but thats about it. Any battle damage would be repaired as soon as it got back to base anyway. So perhaps a few 'new' plates that they haven't got around to painting yet.

Any Confed (and presumeably Kilrathi) ship is going to be maintained pretty well, even if only for the morale of the pilots. How are they going to feel flying around in a ship that looks like it has just come from the wreckers. Remember that in WC3 Tolwyn gets up Rachel for dressing sloppily. If he chews out a grease monkey for not wearing her hat, how's he going to react to battered looking fighters.

Pirates and other riffraff might look a bit worse.

As for the two Raptors. I think that the second looks a little better, but mainly because it looks sharper (anti-aliasing).
